WASHINGTON (AP) Federal authorities are warning law enforcement personnel of a possible terror plot against the New York City subway system during the holiday season.
An internal memo obtained by The Associated Press says the FBI has received a "plausible but unsubstantiated" report that al-Qaida terrorists in late September may have discussed attacking the subway system.

testing...Biden?
Couldn't the same be said for certain New Yorkers on a daily basis?
"MAY have discussed"
please, get back to me when something changes from the past 7 years.
We’re sooooooooooo gonna miss W.
Take a shower?
“plausible but unsubstantiated”
In other words, we could have known a lot more except the terrorist know that we are listening thanks to the NEW YORK TIMES.
For a while I was taking the W train from Whitehall street on nearly a daily basis. About once a month I would descend to the platform to find teams of two police officers every thirty feet or so. Net, there had to be 30-50 police at this one station. Always wondered what was up with that but never bothered to ask.
That’s fine but if doctors can be terrorists, why not cops too? Who is watching them? It has to be the public.
HUH?
what in gods name are you talking about?
it was most likely the turning out of transit cops for a transit detail/roll call. or it was a show-of-force drill.
Increased police presence downtown is usually related to increased chatter and info that isnt made public.
The Federal Police are a regular presence now in lower Manhattan, but you can tell when something is up by the way they check vehicles proceeding down Broadway at their checkpoint (which was in front of the office building I worked in from 2000-2006).
“...if you don’t give Bloomberg a 3rd term, and stop the layoffs of the people’s bureaucrats, we will destroy your subway system...”
I think you have enough time to take a shower before any more news comes out.
The very sad truth is that it would probably be beneficial in the long run to have something like this happen (and I say this as someone who rides the NYC subways every weekday, to a location very close to a prime “holiday season” target). The majority of Americans still don’t seem to “get it” with regard to the threat of Islamic terrorism. They don’t get that we have to stop worrying about stuff like profiling and phone surveillance, and make identifying and neutralizing terrorists the overriding priority. They don’t get that we urgently need to stop taxpayer-supported middle schools and high schools and colleges from pushing one-sided “Islam is peaceful and beautiful” messages in the classroom. 9/11 woke up a few people, but not nearly enough.
Not to make light of it, but if al-Qaida terrorists are discussing attacking the NYC subway system, you know it’s getting close to the holidays. Seems to happen every year.
Yet liberals all over NYC complain that the Bush Adminstration and Republicans use “terrorist threats” as boogey men just to “scare” people. How many people have to die before threats are taken seriously?
