Soon after cutting billions of dollars out of programs that have helped working Latino families make ends meet, Republicans are putting that money towards tax cuts for capital gains and dividends that overwhelmingly ignore the needs of the Latino community. While one percent of Americans would enjoy over half of these tax cuts, more than 80 percent of Latinos would receive nothing. Working Latino families will find it harder to feed their families and heat their homes while money previously used to help cash strapped families will instead be redirected to wealthy investors. Democrats do not believe in balancing the budget on the backs of the poor for the benefit of the rich. As Democrats fought against the immoral budget reconciliation bill, we will also stand against irresponsible tax cuts.
Latino families, and indeed, most Americans will see little from these tax cuts to the wealthy. The richest one percent in America have an average income of over a million dollars a year. In 2009, they will enjoy 53 percent of these tax cuts. The average tax cut of the richest one percent will be $12,000, more than half the $21,600 annual income of the average working Latino. Latinos are traditionally more dependent on earned income, for which there is very little tax relief under this Republican administration and Congress. Instead of offering tax relief to working Latino families, Republicans have cut the safety net out from underneath them by slashing the budgets for such programs as food stamps, Medicaid, student loans, and Low-Income Heating Assistance (LIHEAP).

As the Hispanic proportion of the electorate rises, it will be more difficult for the Republicans to win as a party of limited government. A silver lining of the current deep recession is that many would-be immigrants may decide that they'd rather be poor in their own country rather than coming to the U.S.
Maybe that's because 80 percent of Latinos pay no income taxes at all.
There, fixed it
Somebody tell this clown that it is BECAUSE OF REPUBLICAN TAX CUTS that the “wealthy” can afford to HIRE HISPANICS!!!
Ummmmm.....do any of these Hispanic squatters actually pay taxes?
Exactly right.
The trillions being sent to Wall Street are being sent with
the blessing of the Office of the President-Elect.How
stupid is this writer!!
The discussion in your country is surprisingly socialistic when it comes to taxation. I honestly thought I was reading about a fellow scandinavian countries tax code when I read about your six brackets.
It is rife with special interest thinking like this, instead of being just simple and fair and flat, giving everyone a level playing field. And it probably costs way to much in comparision what it yelds, as it has become more of a redistribution scheme than an income for the government.
Anglo's need to shut up and pay.
They need to ... but will they?
And because they did not get a tax cut, they decided to vote Democratic. Thanks alot for being spoiled.
“As the Hispanic proportion of the electorate rises, it will be more difficult for the Republicans to win as a party of limited government”
Where is the logic and reason behind your assertion? Are hispanic peoples more “socialistic” than other races of peoples?
LOL. That will be the day. I don't know how much experience you have in living and travelling in underdeveloped countries with extreme poverty, but I can say unequivocally that being poor in the US and the rest of the developed world is far more preferable than being stuck in corrupt, third world countries without basic services and very little hope or opportunity of bettering one's standing in life. There will still be hundreds of millions of would-be immigrants out there wanting to get in even in times of a recession or depression.
If savings and investment were not taxed at all, everyone would benefit. The liquidity problem would come to an end. Lenders would have more to lend and business would have more money with which to create jobs.
But no. Rich people would benefit from this and we are willing to keep people poor to make sure that rich people don’t get richer.
“Are hispanic peoples more ‘socialistic’ than other races of peoples?”
It’s not a genetic thing; it is a cultural thing. People from Latin America come from places where freedom is in short supply. They tend to prefer a paternalistic government and don’t mind cronyism — especially the unassimilated ones who came to this country illegally.
The more influence they have upon our political culture, the more our government will resemble that of their homelands. Being essentially National Socialists, the Democrats have to be ecstatic at the prospect.
apparently latinos do not own or work in in businesses or for individuals who create more and stable jobs when their taxes are cut
latinos of course have fled their home countries where taxes on the rich are so much fairer and have created so much opportunity as a result s-a-r-c
LMAO
“Where is the logic and reason behind your assertion? Are hispanic peoples more socialistic than other races of peoples?”
Yes, they bankrupt their own contries and when the money runs out the come here.
Everything else I’d like to say as an employer I can’t....
Didnt Mccain vote against the tax cuts because he said the lower income people neede the money? And many here thought he’d be a good president.
Obama and McCain agreed to move forward on immigration, says Reid
