Tax hikes not part of Obama's big plan

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama signaled yesterday that he will move aggressively to rescue the plunging economy, demanding swift passage by Congress of a massive two-year spending and tax-cutting program. "We're out with the dithering. We're in with a bang," a top aide said.

Obama's plans could put aside his campaign pledge to repeal a Bush tax cut for the wealthy. Those tax cuts might remain in place until they are scheduled to die in 2011, said William M. Daley, an economic adviser. "That looks more likely than not," he said.

Front page news stating that Obama was in fact planning on repealing the Bush tax cuts. This never made front page news prior to the election, and was mostly covered up by AP and others. Of course, I will believe that the Bush tax cuts will remain when I see it.

They will remain until they expire....not renewed. Originally, he would have jacked those rates right off the bat in the first 100 days. Basically, it is a two year reprieve on screwing the investment class.

If Obama delays imposing tax hikes during the credit crisis, isn’t that an implicit admission that tax increases HURT the economy? That begs the question....why would he EVER propose tax hikes if he admits (albeit implicitly) that they hurt the economy? Will someone call him on the carpet on this?

We're far from wealthy and benefit from Bush's tax cuts. In fact, I think everyone working gets a benefit. How stupid can middle class people be when they buy this rhetoric, but are personally benefitting from these cuts? (I'm assuming many buy this crap because they voted in the socialist.) Not those here, of course.

Excellent question. One which the libs will, of course, never answer.

OMG he is going to print money, Robert Mugabe-style. If he isn’t going to hike taxes there is no other way he can pay for it all...

You Yanks didn’t just elect your first African-American President, you went the whole nine yards and elected an African-style Tin-pot Dictator: Barack Hussein Obama Dada.

You’ve nailed it.

And I will flat out accuse the left of not caring what they do to the economy -

their tax policy is based on petty little juvenile greed and envy and the desire to punish those more successful than they are.

Like the way you put it. Your right, 2/3 of the American people have been so dumb down and looking for handouts that we now have what we got. A total Communists Party with Obama as it ruler.

Why are the media allowed to get away with telling the same lie over and over again?

The Bush tax cuts WERE NOT JUST FOR THE WEALTHY!!!!!!!

VERY middle-class people received considerable relief from the 2001 income tax rate reductions, including single filers making as little as (roughly) $48,000 and married couples making $65,000. If the Bush cuts are allowed to expire (and they will be) marginal income tax rates will increase on the middle class. In addition, Obama is planning increases in dividend and capital gains taxes, and a restoration of the death tax (a/k/a the "Estate tax", which is, nonetheless a tax on property acquired at death).

"The Bush tax cuts WERE NOT JUST FOR THE WEALTHY!!!!!!!"

What do ya mean? the MSM keeps telling me the Bush tax cuts were only for rich republicans!/s

Also, along with letting the BTC expire, the Bush child tax credit will also expire, from my understanding...

Yep - but the drive-by media will interview NO ONE between now and then to see how it might impact non-wealthy people. Instead, (in their new role as Pravda reborn) they will continue to parrot the Party line that only the EEEEEEVIL Rich are gonna be made to pay. Yeah, we'll get those filthy, selfish, bastards, won't we??!!

When it comes to voting you can replace "middle class" with the "ignorant Jay-Walking chattering class". These are the same pathetic mice who believed Bill Clinton when he lied about a "middle class tax cut" to get elected back in 1992. You remember Clinton's "middle class tax cut" don't you? One year after that promise, in 1993, we got the biggest Democrat tax hike in history.

It's deja vu all over again.

I know someone who’s job depends completely on working in Iraq. He voted for Obama knowing he’ll probably lose his job. I don’t understand it.
