[President] Bush plans to start library, Freedom Institute

Outgoing US President George W Bush plans to open a presidential library in Texas and found a Freedom Institute to promote democracy, his wife Laura Bush confirmed to Peru's El Comercio daily.

"The President will build a library in Dallas, where we will move to, and a Freedom Institute," she said in an interview published on Sunday, as her husband wrapped up his participation in a weekend summit in Lima by Asia-Pacific leaders.

"The institute will give us both the opportunity to work on issues that are very important to us," she said, according to the Spanish-language translation by the newspaper.

Laura Bush, a former teacher, said she wanted to return to the field of education, as well as "working for human rights for women in Afghanistan."

Mr Bush, who joked during the APEC summit about his upcoming "forced retirement," is due to hand over power to his Democrat successor Barack Obama on January 20, 2009.

US media have already quoted aides and Texas law-makers on the plans for the presidential library, in fact more of a museum, with documents and gifts accumulated during Mr Bush's time in office and the Freedom Institute.

The US publication The Week said the George W Bush Presidential Library would be built at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

It also noted Mr Bush telling a biographer that he intended to give speeches, an activity that has proved extremely lucrative for previous US leaders, notably Bill Clinton.

History will treat our current president much more kindly than the media and democrats may wish. I'll be honored to have President Bush as a neighbor.

How about my "Freedom" to drive to the local 7-Eleven without being crashed into by a drunk illegal alien going 80 miles an hour through a stop sign.

I shudder when I think of all the "freedoms", even their very LIVES that thousands of Americans on their own soil lost under the regime of that man and an irresponsible Congress. That alone, his insane border policies for eight years, will be a permanent stain on his record I am afraid.

Does the article mention where we might send a donation to this library?

I have a number of former co-workers in academia. I want to send money in their names. It should make them all very grumpy.

I would be honored to have him as a neighbor as well. President Bush has proven himself to be a man of great vision, character and courage . . . history will treat him well!

Just think, in another 100 years or so, there’ll be over 100 of these useless presidential libraries, monuments to cults, vanities and bad policies. I wonder if there’ll be building replicas of those in Las Vegas, you know, like Venice and the Eiffel Tower. You bet, they won’t they’re smarter than that! And we once thought that Personality Cult died with FDR’s Uncle Joe in 1953!

There is property to be developed at the NW quadrant of Mockingbird Ln. & US 75 (Central Expressway) for the location of the Bush Library. My understanding is the shopping area at that corner will be torn down to make room (CVS, Barnes & Noble, LaMadeleine).

I would be honored to have the president near no matter how close. He often drove down a street close to our home in Los Angeles. We always went out to see him pass and wave no matter what or how many stood around with their hands in their pockets watching the procession that always comes with the U.S. President coming down the street. One time my husband said he saw him wave back at us. (It is difficult at best to see which car/SUV he is in and even to see in, but my husband sees things others do not and never says he sees anything with out being sure he saw it. So I believed it.) It was one of those times people were being exceedingly cruel to him and I felt so good to have the opportunity to wave and say we're with you Mr. President and proud.

In spite of the negatives, President Bush kept our taxes low and kept us safe from terrorist attacks and supported our military. He is a good hearted and loyal man who honors God. God bless Him and Laura and their daughters.

Oh, cheer up, there’ll be fun rides for the kids, a copy of an abandoned sub-prime housing development, and a mini replica of the Rio Grande to sneak across with one’s back wet!

Thank you, Starwise. I just looked at your homepage again. I just love your pictures of our wonderful President. Some of them almost make me cry. What a great man he is. And my, how hard they have made it on him. God will always bless this man. I am surely praying for that.

I guess moving to Dallas is wise. There is more opportunity for payola there than at the ‘home’ place.

History will show that it was Bush that sold our freedom via the Scam bailout nationalizations recently and his sellout with the G20 summit.

Bush, Republican Socialism at it best.

Thanks Bush for turning us over to the socialists!

I guess as Russian warships line up in Venezuela and China continues to go to increased cyber attack into our national security computers on Obama’s watch maybe you'll yearn for the one thing President Bush has given us and that is Security. But hey maybe getting our country blown to bits and having the Chinese take over our homes is inviting to you. Maybe you can offer them your Hate Bush Kool Aid with the libbies.
