The Price of Our Good Name (NY Times - Must be read not to be believed!)
The New York Times ^ | November 23, 2008

Posted on 11/23/2008 6:14:03 AM PST by publius1

Americans have watched in horror as President Bush has trampled on the Bill of Rights and the balance of power. The list of abuses that President-elect Barack Obama must address is long: once again require the government to get warrants to eavesdrop on Americans; undo scores of executive orders and bill-signing statements that have undermined the powers of Congress; strip out the unnecessary invasions of privacy embedded in the Patriot Act; block new F.B.I. investigative guidelines straight out of J. Edgar Hoover’s playbook.

Those are not the only disasters Mr. Obama will inherit. He will have to rescue a drowning economy, restore regulatory sanity to the financial markets and extricate the country from an unnecessary war in Iraq so it can focus on a necessary war in Afghanistan.

Even with all those demands, there is one thing Mr. Obama must do quickly to begin to repair this nation’s image and restore its self-respect: announce a plan for closing Mr. Bush’s outlaw prison at Guantánamo Bay.

Does anybody have an example of an American citizen whose rights were trampled?

Yep. Joe the plumber.

It shouldn't take more than a few days to begin to undo all these supposed wrongs. Why does the Left believe Sadaam should have been left in Power and Mullah Ohmar deposed? Is it just the fact that the Baath party was socialist and the Taliban was not??

Once all these "reforms" are completed, will we be safer? Is there a tooth fairy??

Good News: Stock price down 95%, locked out of commercial paper market, bonds rated junk, dividends slashed 75%, employees laid off, trying to sell assets at a "fair price" -- all within the past few months.

Bad News: It takes time for the corpse to finish rotting.

Sorry. I couldn't stomach the whole thing. We knew weeks ago that no matter what "The One" does we will hear either A) it's STILL Bush's fault or B) that his naysayers are all racists.

For the sake of history, Obama will be painted a perfect president. Anything less will be considered bigoted and narrow minded.

What a joke of an editorial.

The NYTimes is guilty more than this administration of damaging the reputation of this country. There absurd reporting on Abu Graib; their publishing top secret data on the front pages, and their open support of the enemy.

Idiots one and all.

GIGO.

They can’t go out of business soon enough for me.

Just heard, the Cleveland Plain Dealer is laying off 50 of its writers...and they have already deeply cut benefits.

Plus the actual size of the newsprint stock is about 30% smaller, meaning less of a "newshole" for your money. That'll sure drive circulaton up.

Not dealing with this treasonous rag straight away was one of the greatest mistakes of the administration.

Using the same logic, it would make sense for a liberal administration to shut down right-wing media...would you support that?

McVeigh was a gutless coward and a terrorist and would be regarded as such no matter what building he blew up and whether or not he killed or injured anyone.

He would never be a national hero.

They've caught up to DemocraticUnderground in content quality, and remain barely ahead of the website in readership.

Surely Obama will wave his hand and banish these evils into the no-longer rising sea.

REPATRIATE DETAINEES WHO ARE NOT TO BE TRIED This must be done carefully. There are believed to be 30 to 50 detainees from places like Algeria and Libya who have justified fears of being abused or tortured if they are sent home. The Obama administration should provide these prisoners with advance notice of plans to repatriate them and give them a chance to contest those plans.

So, the NYT REALLY DOES want terrorists let loose on America!

The New York Times is an American Enemy.

The head of Schultzberger must be severed and placed on a pike in Times Square. His body impaled and his guts pulled out in a long stream for all to see and remember.

Unfortunately, it mirrors my own 401K.

These people are now in charge. As time goes on, the question is - will they continue to blame GWB for the problems we are having? Excuse Obama and company because nothing is being done? And if, God forbid, another terrorist attack kills Americans, will they take responsibility for it, or blame it on the “former administration”? We all know the answer.

“New York Times Co. shares tumble to new low”

....and the McClatchey group which echoes the NYT is now down to $1.50/share....folks this is the result of the VietNam era when so much of MSM journalism in this country went anti-American...you’d think they’d try to change their editorial policies to stay afloat.

....BTW....how is Rupert Murdoch doing?....is he making money?....I know Limbaugh is.

Its amazing that after all the pro-Obama propoganda and the victory of the Democrat party in the elections that the NYT can’t let go of attacking Bush.

The NYT staff is seriously mentally ill.

News Corp (NWS) is challenged along with everyone else. But they’re in very good shape compared to Gannett (GCI), McClatchy (MNI), NY Times Co. (NYT), et al.
