Palin's star burns brightly as Oprah calls

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Oprah wants her, and so do Letterman and Leno. Fresh from her political defeat, Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of interview couches at a rate that would be astonishing for most Hollywood stars, let alone a first-term governor.

All future candidates do indeed have to meet her requirements to get her vote, as they have to meet yours to get your vote. This is what the primary process is all about. This nonsense we've been reading lately about annointing Sarah Palin four years out is downright unamerican. If she's to be the nominee, and she may well be, she has to earn just like every nominee before her.

Glad to see you admit that being "qualified" is purely subjective and arbitrary. Perhaps this will stop some here of trying to convince others of who is "qualified" and who is not "qualified" as if there is some objective criteria.

I just gave you the links to the debate transcript as well as the Hannity interview. I’m willing to take the Couric and Gibson interviews off the table. It doesn’t make a difference. She just doesn’t understand the issues and especially the bailout/financial crisis.

I don't know what to do with someone as bent on disliking this woman as you are.

Sarah Palin is a state governor. She is the chief executive of our largest state, and is the CIC of the Alaska Air National Guard, who protect our far northern frontier.

She is competent, admired, and has an exceptional record in her political career. She understands, no, embodies the fundamental principles upon which this nation was founded.

She is courageous, has a sharp mind, and clearly believes in the basic goodness and exceptionalism of America. She also unquestionably possesses fine leadership qualities.

Apparently, none of that matters to you. You want to judge her from the perspective of a Washington policy wonk, or the Ivy League intelligentsia.

Are you of the opinion that Sarah Palin does not have the intelligence and judgment to master all of the issues you speak of, were she to be put in a position of high authority?

That's really all that matters here. Does she, or does she not have the requisite skill and intelligence required for the job of CIC?

I, and millions of others are convinced that she does. I believe that given the chance, she would govern much better than many of her predecessors. Sarah Palin is a once-in-an-era figure, and if you didn't witness that during the campaign, then I'm sorry you missed it.

A friend pointed out to me that socialists are preoccupied with IQ and academic credentials because they believe in an unlimited government of men not laws. Conservatives believe in a limited government of laws, not men, and are, therefore, less concerned about having an omniscient genius as President.

He might not have done so recently, but he did go on media shows and others at times over 2000 and the 2004 elections! He’s also done a number of media interviews/shows

while he’s been President. He went on Bill O’Reilly and Chris Mathews (MSNBC), Larry King, and on Oprah’s. I can remember particularly him being on Oprah’s show, because he kissed her on the cheek!

He also went on Tim Russert’s show, and on Larry King’s show w/Laura, and an interview with Carl Cameron, he did an interview with Neil Cavuto in Florida (I think in Florida)about 5 or 6 months ago. He had Brit Hume come up to the White House for an interview, and Tom Brokaw. So it’s not like he’s not willing to speak to the media or celebrities. He’s spoken to quite a few!

Look, the entire economy is already messed up. We’re talking about real money; entire life savings are gone. Obama will mess it up even further. We may end up with another Great Depression. This is not a game.

We need a president that can fix these problems. Palin had the opportunity to address them and she was lacking. You can repeat all you want that she has a sharp mind and maybe you can convince yourself that it is true but you have to show proof from what she actually said or wrote.

::: sigh :::

For the record, I strongly disagree, and think that Sarah Palin would be an incredible Commander in Chief, in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

I think we're done.

Who is the Irish guy you’re referring to?

I believe he's talking about Craig Ferguson who is Scottish. Sarah was actually on his show before McCain named her as his running mate: The Late Late Show - Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin

"some goofballs in AL filed ethics charges"

How do goofballs in Alabama (AL) have any standing to file ethics charges against a public official in Alaska (AK)? :^)

Let’s talk about Obama, Biden, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and most of the Democrap Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates of recent decades. Few on THAT list were any more qualified than Governor Palin, and many were/are markedly less qualified, including our President-elect Barack Obamanation and VP-elect Joe Biden.

Thank you.

Just adding these names into the conversation makes all of the negative and incredulous postings about Gov. Palin look all the more strained and infantile.

Just what on earth are these people demanding of her? Divine perfection? In a politician? You can only achieve that illusion through projection, as the Democrats have done to Obama.

The bar some have set for Sarah Palin is just unreal. And, if you watch closely, you'll see that no other politician (including Obama) is ever put to such rigorous demands as she is. It's simply puzzling to watch.

Thomas Jefferson himself could rise from the crypt, join the political fray, and these people would listen to him and reply, "yeah, but...."

he he. Good ideas, lily. She should go on Oprah, not for politics, but to promote understanding, awareness for families with Down Syndrome children. Bring in Down Syndrome support and fund-raising groups. Center the whole program on education of the special needs, opportunities, challenges, and joys for families with these special children. This would be right up Oprah's ally (along with her audience), and would be a perfect opportunity to help a worthy cause while keeping her face in the media spotlight. Who's going to attack a mom for speaking out on this subject?

I’m asking myself, why do I bother to offer a comment on a thread that already has over 250 comments?

My answer: because it is about Sarah. My friends (to coin a phrase,) is there any other politician in America who attracts such attention?

Sarah is a phenomenon.

P.S. Palin in 2012.

Naaaah. Guys like this guy have no shame.
No resignation option for such agent provocateurs from the Comrade Obama Hitler Youth Brown Shirts. A swift termination from this site will do very nicely for such a guy.

Craig Ferguson. Believe he’s Scottish. He’s the funniest of all of them, but he’s a lib, too. He usually knocks Prince Charles , the Queen, et al, rather than American politicos, which is a welcome change.

Maybe education factors into this after all?

Abraham Lincoln spent only a year and a half in school, so by your standards, he would have been totally unqualified for the White House and must have been a terrible president.

GWB...governed a state with the 2nd largest economy out of the 50 states, while Sarah Palin governs the 5th smallest. GWB governed the 2nd most populous state in the union with over 20 million citizens, not 670,000, the 3rd smallest in the nation.

But the governor of Texas has limited powers, and the office is largely ceremonial.

And what is your point? Are you touting Rick Perry for the presidency?

“The mastermind behind Reaganomics which gave us prosperity well into the Clinton years had a degree in....economics. What a coincidence.”

No, what a non-sequitur. If you do any research on Reagan, you’ll know that, on his own, he processed available information on most of the important issues of the day, and came to his own conclusions on the best way forward. They became his convictions and he carried them with him to Washington. It’s a weak argument to say that just because, among the perhaps hundreds of people Reagan consulted with regarding economics, some of them had economics degrees(!), and therefore it wasn’t Reagan who was the key to his own economic policies. But following your logic, why do you allow Reagan the leeway to have consulted with economics people, but somehow conclude that Sarah Palin would not do the same, or somehow has not already?
