“Obama doesn’t express compassion for the bird or horror at the sight of its killing.”

Inability to empathize is the major indicator of a sociopath.

Don’t forget to singe the pinfeathers.

No, whoever wrote this never actually witnessed it.

I listened to the crickets chirp under the moonlight and remembered the last twitch of life that I’d witnessed a few hours before. I could barely believe my good fortune.

I must be missing something...

We had lots of chickens and when I happened to see my Dad kill one (it wasnt exactly considered a rite of passage, a religious ceremony in our family) I didnt get all misty eyed about it years later...

I just enjoyed my Mom’s good cooking...

Or is this where his ideas about the necessary death of babies started ????

The “red hairy” part was probably the chicken. For Lolo to tell them to wash up for dinner just after cutting off the head means no time to boil the water to pluck the feathers. No time to gut the chicken, cut off the feet and cook the thing. Neither bama or the author has ever really experienced this scenario.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That struck me too! I know this scenario from start to finish, when I was a small boy my MOTHER used to wring chicken necks, when I was older I did it. For someone to say go wash up for supper immediately after the chicken is killed indicates total fabrication, Obama is a fraud from start to finish.

Why do you singe the pinfeathers?
I assume the pinfeathers are the “stubs” sticking out of the bird after you pluck it.

Later, lying alone beneath a mosquito net canopy, I listened to the crickets chirp under the moonlight and remembered the last twitch of life that I’d witnessed a few hours before. I could barely believe my good fortune.

Remembering the last twitch of life? Barely believe my good fortune? Seems like the kind of formative childhood experience that makes it easy to vote no repeatedly on bills which seek to help babies who survive abortion attempts.

Pinfeathers are somewhat like hair. You burn them off.

You’ve probably found them on chicken you’ve bought at the store. They’re commonly left on the edge of a wing.

Lolo shrugged and looked down at me. “The boy should know where his dinner is coming from. What do you think, Barry?” I looked at my mother, then turned back to face the man holding the chicken. Lolo nodded again, and I watched the man set the bird down, pinning it gently under one knee and pulling its neck out across a narrow gutter. For a moment the bird struggled, beating its wings hard against the ground, a few feathers dancing up with the wind. Then it grew completely still. The man pulled the blade across the bird’s neck in a single smooth motion. Blood shot out in a long, crimson ribbon. The man stood up, holding the bird far away from his body, and suddenly tossed it high into the air. It landed with a thud, then struggled to its feet, its head lolling grotesquely against its side, its legs pumping wildly in a wide, wobbly circle. I watched as the circle grew smaller, the blood trickling down to a gurgle, until finally the bird collapsed, lifeless on the grass.

then turned back to face the man BARAK holding the chicken Bald Eagle. Lolo nodded again, and I watched the man BARAK set the bird Bald Eagle down, pinning it gently under one knee and pulling its neck out across a narrow gutter. For a moment (NOV 4,2008) the bird Bald Eagle struggled, beating its wings hard against the ground, a few feathers dancing up with the wind. Then it grew completely still. The man BARAK pulled the blade across the bird's Bald Eagle's neck in a single smooth motion. Blood shot out in a long, crimson ribbon. The man BARAK stood up, holding the bird Bald Eagle far away from his BARAK's body, and suddenly tossed it high into the air. It landed with a thud, then struggled to its feet, its head lolling grotesquely against its side, its legs pumping wildly in a wide, wobbly circle. I BARAK watched as the circle grew smaller, the blood trickling down to a gurgle, until finally the bird Bald Eagle collapsed, lifeless on the grass.

And you dont throw the chicken up in the air and let it thud to the ground and convulse around, bruising the flesh.

Reminds me how blessed I am to be able to go to a store and buy the chicken all ready processed.

I know that if I had no other alternative, I would have to kill them myself. I know that all meat was once alive, but I rejoice in the fact that I don’t have to kill it myself.

(Putting the worm on the hook was bad enough))

I’ve noticed the odd phenomenon of Barack (Bwaaak?) Obama being surrounded by chicken symbolism before. We have his fire-breathing “pastor,” Jeremiah Wright, going on about “chickennnnsss coming home to roooosssst,” we have Boehner’s uncharacteristic outburst about “chicken $#!t,” we have the widely disseminated tale, never acknowledged outside of Kenya, of his wacky step-grandmother Sarah Obama sacrificing a black and a white chicken to “the goddess of the river” in order to put a spell on black and white voters in the US to vote for Obama ... it’s weird. Makes me want to look into any supposed symbolic significance of chicken, under the various belief systems swirling around him.
