New Senate to get major global warming bill
AFP ^ | Nov. 21, 2008 | AFP

The US Senate will take up two sweeping global warming bills in January, in the latest sign that Barack Obama's election could quickly reverse years of US footdragging on climate change.

Boxer, chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, said one bill would combat harmful gas emissions by providing 15 billion dollars a year to spur clean energy innovation and the development of advanced biofuels.

The other piece of legislation will direct the US Environmental Protection Agency to set up a cap-and-trade system to stem greenhouse gas emissions.

Women, children, minorities and the elderly will be hurt the most by this crap.

Exactly right and therefore no Republican of any stripe can ever do anything but condemn this effort, unrelievedly, uninterruptedly and at the loudest possible volume.

Just for the record and, yes, it's ad hoc, but the temperature here in central NC is 26 degrees, a record low for this date (breaking the one set in 1987).

“Americans want to eat Pelosi”

You MIGHT want to consider some punctuation! And where are you living? Your tap water is unhealthy?

You are an optimist.

They are more likely to take over the power plants, staff them with workers from the recipient class and order them to provide a maximum of 6 hrs a day of power.

Comparing nothing to something, people will be thankful for the pittance. Congress will attempt to trumpet how they saved everyone, however, with minimum power, most folks will not be able to watch TV. So, in their infinite wisdom, they will subsidize one channel radios for all, carrying only Congressional propaganda.

I wish I was being sarcastic.

"20% less energy followed by 80% less energy - doesn’t that equal no technology at all?"

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Hold the calls, we have a our answer.

“Your tap water is unhealthy?”

Do you object to people having the CHOICE to drink bottled water if they want to? Do you think CONGRESS/GOVERNMENT should tell peopl[e what kind of water they can drink?

“Do you object to people having the CHOICE”

Abdo-lutely not! I just don’t like some of the myths spread around about tap water!

Looks like this may be the Democrats’ suicide pact with America.

Europe is backing away from this as fast as they can and the stupid Rats want to show that America can be as stupid as Europe was.

My tap water is better than any bottled water. Sometimes we buy bottled water and dump the water out and replace it with our tap water. The bottled water containers are convenient.

I run a water company. Great water from deep wells. The Ohio Dept. of Health used to tell us we had the best water in the state. Then the DoH morphed into the EPA, and they told us we had to start chlorinating the water. The customers complained for the next 5 years! Nothin’ I could do about it. I fill plastic jugs with water straight from the raw water test tap. No treatment at all. Now, only I have “the best water in the state!”

Sorry about the punctuation I blame my anger, government schools and the fact I banged out the post on a blackberry.
I live in NJ 21% of the wells are known to have high levels of Radium. I have an RO and water softener. I don't like the taste of the RO (use for ice) and don't trust it either.
The point was the BW industry provides an excellent quality product in good times and during natural disasters. People should have a choice to buy it without the media selectively reporting only the side presented by anti-business fringe groups and goverment unfairly targeting an industry as payback for support during an election.

“Obama has called for annual targets that would aim to reduce emission levels to 1990 levels by 2020 and then by an additional 80 percent by 2050.”

While the liberals are inventing cheap "clean" energy thru the magic of congressional legislation, maybe they can mandate the creation of a time machine and flying pigs. They each have an equal chance of occuring.

Blame the 20%ers who said “let him win and teach the GOP a lesson”... the same song and dance we heard from the unappeasables back in 2006.

McShame was going to try to pass this same piece of legislation too. Let the blame fall on the dems when this rubbish fails.

Don’t give me that. He was not perfect, but he was far better than what we have now and it will be impossible to unravel what is about to unfold. I think a lot of you are going to have a very abrupt growing up period under this man.

I voted for McCain. I'm just trying to say that there is not a dime of difference between McCain and Obama on Global Warming and that was his greatest failure as a candidate other than not understanding Free Market Economics.

While the forces of liberalism are coming at us like a flood, the top of the ticket not only failed to articulate why the flood is bad, it said it was good! Boo, hiss and damnation! I can understand why he failed to inspire the base.

Oh, I agree with you on Global Warming, energy and immigration McCain was horrid... the only good thing about McCain is he wasn't Obama... and I REALLY want him defeated in 2010... I just hope a conservative runs against him, because I really don't want to vote for a democrat.

I maintain, people need to change the GOP primary system, they keep talking third party and that doesn't work, fixing what is broke is the alternative.
