CNN: Can Romney Save GOP? (MSM picking candidates again)
CNN ^

Posted on 11/21/2008 7:50:09 AM PST by Retired Greyhound

The former business consultant and founder of Bain Capital handled economic issues during his campaign with an ease and confidence that seemed to elude Sen. John McCain. As the stock market tanked throughout the fall, a growing chorus of conservative pundits speculated Romney would have boosted the GOP ticket considerably more than Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin did.

RomneyCare type legislation is the first step towards government takeover of America’s healthcare system. Roughly 1/7th of the US economy. Most free market capitalists believe it we’re on the road to nationalized healthcare. JimRob believes it and I believe it too. Free Republic doesn’t support socialism of any kind. Government enforced auto insurance is a form of socialism. When I moved to Colorado in the 1970`s there was no mandatory auto insurance required. Things were working just fine.

If you like socialism so much, move to France!

The most obvious answer is the crowds she drew. Venues had to be changed to accomodate thousands of supporters who tried for free tickets for events that were originally scheduled to be held for hundreds. People took off work to go and see/hear her. She was wonderfully received every place she went. Tell me would Romney, Ridge or Pawlenty packed stadiums?

When Gov. Palin had the crowds she kept true to her pro-life; pro-gun; pro-drilling stands. She spoke as a true conservative to thousands!!! No wishy washy RINO she is a true Reagan Republican...and her ideas were well received!!!

Would either of those three - mentioned prior had garnered the campaign donation spike that Palin caused? What was it? 6mil in the first 48 hours of her being on the ticket...would anyone else have caused that outpouring of funds?

We already have nationalized, aka socialized medicine in the country for a segment of the population. It’s called the VA healthcare system. People who live in glass houses........

Can Romney save the GOP?
NO.
There are too many of them that would rather have McCain or Obama than Romney.
Who can understand such mind sets?

Your argument is pure idiocy. Its not a liberal or conservative issue. The vast majority of American's support the Veterans Administartion. It goes along with supporting a strong national defense. Something you fail to comprehend.

You obviously oppose helping America's veterans, because you don't think its important or ethical to take care of those men and women who fought to keep America free. I fully understand. The Romney's never served their nation in any military capacity. Not one time.

Now, back under your rock.

I was paying attention because in the 90’s I was litigating abortion cases, on the pro-life side.

Good for you (& I mean it).

Do you need to ping daddy to fight your battles?

Nowhere did I say we shouldn’t support our vets. I think they deserve a high quality of care and the system in place shouldn’t be immune from revamping. How do I know? I worked there.

When you can debate in a logical, honest manner let me know. If all you can do is twist my words, insult me and ping someone to rescue you, don’t waste my time.

Don't try and change the subject. You're calling the VA, a socialist entity. Since this is Jim's website and since he's a big supporter of the military and the VA, he needs to know when off the wall remarlks are being posted. I see why you don't like that. LOL

Here is something for you to chew on. Enjoy. It speaks directly to Willard's two-faced, lying ways. Romney on Vietnam, first in 1994 and then 2007. The man is a pathetic joke!

"I was not planning on signing up for the military. It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam."

~~~ Mitt Romney, Boston Herald, 5/2/94
"I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."
~~~ Mitt Romney, Boston Globe, 6/24/07

McCain won 19 out of 22 Closed GOP primaries, and Romney won 3.

McCain won 31 total primaries, Romney won 11 and Huckabee won 8.

Where were the “true conservatives” in closed or in the primaries, at all?

We also have taxpayer funded medicine to the extent we are stuck paying the bills for all of the illegal aliens (and other uncovereds) using our ERs as their private family doctors. Anything that gets more people covered in the most conservative manner possible, as proposed by the Heritage Foundation, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and others who have similar plans, makes sense to me.

The greater number of people responsible for themselves -- the better. Personal responsibility is a very conservative principle.

From Medicine.net

Definition of Socialized medicine

Socialized medicine: A system of health care in which all health personnel and health facilities, including doctors and hospitals, work for the government and draw salaries from the government. Doctors in the US Veterans Administration and the Armed Services are paid this way. And the Veterans and US military hospitals are also supported this way. Examples also exist in Great Britain and Spain.

Another definition

so·cial·ized medicine (ssh-lzd)
n.
A system for providing medical and hospital care for all at a nominal cost by means of government regulation of health services and subsidies derived from taxation.

So, as you say, elements of our system are already socialized. Interesting that some among us are so resistant to reform.

That is what just happened, we spread out the primaries and McCain was our winner. It was decided long before we got to vote in February. How can spreading this out make a difference? All we need are the Dems crossing over again.
