Eastbound traffic on Interstate 20 was shut down for a short time Thursday morning by what turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Tactical units from Parker County law enforcement agencies responded to a report of a man with a gun to his head at about 9:30 a.m. near mile marker 420, close to the I-20 merge with Interstate 30.

Seems pointless to sent the tac squad if a guy is going to shoot himself. What are they going to do, administer the coup de grace?
Good thing the guy didn’t make any sudden moves. All one of the cops would have to do is “feel he was in danger” and they could have pumped a couple dozen rounds into the guy.
If you have ANY dealing with a cop - make sure he “feels safe.”
You know, when I was kid, it was the cops’ job to make the public feel safe.
Now, it’s the other way around.

Typical cops around here. Can’t tell a cell phone from a gun. Yikes.
The cops are the ones who were called, not the ones who initiated the call. You must be one of those typical non-cops: a total dunce, unable to tell a response to a call, from the call itself.

You know, when I was a kid, it was the cops’ job to respond to dangerous, often deadly calls, while being held to the highest standards of conduct. Oh, wait... it still is.

Let's see... IN my life I have been burglarized, mugged, assaulted, stalked... and the cops would come and shrug their shoulders. I’d have to demand that they made a report and put it in the police log so there would be evidence later if someone was found.
In other words, I am on my own.
Which is fine. I have learned I can't count on the cops if there is trouble. And I am perfectly capable of defending myself now.
My only experience with cops is getting tagged if I am 7 miles over the speed limit at 1 am when coming back from working late, or if I forget to put my seat belt on, and if my registration or inspection sticker is a few weeks out of date they are happy to pull me over, and if I say anything other than "Yes sir," "No sir," they go into hard-cop mode "Are you giving me a hard time?"
Hey, I'm not giving you a hard time. I'm more worried you're going to blow me away if I reach for my insurance card or cell phone.
Of course that is because they "want to make it sure they get home safely."
Hey, I want to get home safely, too. I don't want to get shot by some hyped-up cop who mistakes my cell phone for a gun.
Cripes, if they are that afraid they should just stay home. I'll take my chances with the crooks, thank you very much.
Oh, right, that's what I am doing now, anyway.
