John Shaddegg was in line to replace McCain if McCain had won. He announced his retirement last year but reneged and that was one of the reasons.

If McCain leaves, his replacement must be a Republican, no matter who the Governor is.
I like Shaddegg. I would love to see McCain leave the Senate with his reaching across the aisle mentality.
