An Indian navy warship has destroyed a suspected Somali pirate vessel after it came under attack in the Gulf of Aden. INS Tabar sank the pirate "mother ship" after it failed to stop for investigation and opened fire instead, an Indian navy statement said. There has been a surge in piracy incidents off the coast of Somalia. The latest attack came days after the Saudi-owned Sirius Star supertanker and its 25 crew were seized by pirates and anchored off the Somali coast. Vela International, operators of the Sirius Star, told the BBC no demands had yet been received from the pirates. The company also said all the crew were safe...

Not the same article, just the same topic. Hoorah!
Russians
Yesterday Rush posed a question: What navy will protect against piracy? Although I agree with his point that the US is the world’s protection against lawlessness; nevetheless, our Indian allies have just scored a victory in the fight. Hats off to them.
Built by the Russkis, armed by the Brits, Indians, and Israelis ... highly suitable for blowing pirates to Hell.
Let’s stop playing wordgames. They’re radical Islamists on boats. Deal with them accordingly.
(from Wikipedia)
INS Tabar (F44) is the third of the Talwar-class frigates of the Indian Navy. INS Tabar is the first vessel in the Talwar class to be armed with supersonic BrahMos (PJ-10) Anti-ship cruise missiles.
Talwar Class Frigate
The Talwar class is a new class of frigates built for the Indian Navy. The Talwar class guided missile frigates, also known as the Type 1135.6, are modified Krivak III class frigates from Russia. The Talwar Class has a displacement of 4,000 tons and speed of 30 knots and is capable of accomplishing a wide scale of missions, primarily, finding and eliminating enemy submarines and large surface ships.
Due to the use of stealth technologies and a special hull design, the resulting frigate features reduced radar cross section (RCS) as well as electromagnetic, acoustic and infrared signatures. Equipped with Russian-made sensors and weapon systems, the Talwar class frigates are modern ships with balanced capabilities capable of countering modern Western naval assets. The Talwar Class shows Indo-Russian joint production capabilities as the ships of the Class have have quite a few systems of Indian origin and manufacture, including their anti-submarine sensor (sonar) suite and complete communication equipment.
That’s a fine how-do-you-namaste on them pirates! Go, India!! :-)
Someone has to say it!
The picture provided by the BBC may be a filed photo. I’m not sure if it is an old frigate or some other vessel. But here’s what we can know about the new Indian navy:
Russia Offers Project 22 350 Frigate to Indian Navy (http://www.india-defence.com/reports/2976)
Russia has offered India the export version of its new Project 22 350 frigate as part of a tender for the construction of seven ships.
Only one ship of that project has been laid so far. That one was begun in February 2006 at the Northern Wharf.
According to the Indian press, proposals to participate in the tender were sent to European, American and Russian wharves at the end of last year.
The Indian program is worth $6.6 billion and foresees the construction of one ship in a foreign wharf and six ships in India under license. Between 1998 and 2003, Russia built three 1135.6 frigates for India.
The Indians have begun the construction of three of their own Project 17 frigates at the Mazagon wharves.
Those ships were designed in conjunction with the Russian Northern Design and Construction Bureau and the Canadian CAE based on the Project 1135.6. Up to 12 more of improved Project 17A model may be built as well.
At least the Indians have balls, unlike the female U.S. Admiral, who said yesterday that our “options are limited” in dealing with the hijacked Saudi tanker.
The Indians are not handcuffed by political correctness.
Rush needs to be talking about Leo Donofrio and Gary Creep (Alan Keyes) lawsuits. All the conservative talk show radio hosts are cowards for ignoring these suits.
So, which of our ships did they steal the design from?
Send in a ‘loaded cloan’ ship directed by remote control. Allow the bad guys to come on board. Blow up cloan. Repeat as often as necessary. Prediction: pirating will cease one way or another.
The Indians “get it.” Our navy is stuck having to fire warning shots and take survivors. Some USN Captain will get a court martial if he does anything. Harsh language towards a Somali and our guys go to the brig. It will be even worse soon. Obama will allow the Somalis and their extended family of 10 million emigrate to Amerika.
