Pregnant Mother's Case Drew International Attention and Outrage
A six-month pregnant mother of two who faced a forced abortion by Chinese authorities has been freed and allowed to continue her pregnancy, according to Radio Free Asia. The case had attracted international attention and outrage.
Arigul Tursun was scheduled to undergo the abortion against her will as early as today because authorities said she was entitled to only two children, according to the Uyghur Human Rights Project.
"I am all right and I am home now," Tursun told RFA.
The local population control committee chief reportedly said Tursun was released because "she wasn't in good enough health to have an abortion."
Tursun had earlier escaped from the hospital where she was kept under guard. Her husband said village authorities threatened to confiscate his house and farmland if his wife wasn't found. Police later tracked her down at the home of a relative.
The case sparked outrage in the U.S. among members of Congress. Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) called forced abortions a "barbaric practice" and made a personal appeal on behalf of Tursun directly to the Chinese ambassador.
"Twice Arzigul has fled and been recaptured by China's population control cadres," said Smith. "Is the Chinese government really going to forcibly abort a third-trimester baby, after the mother's desperate efforts to save her child have become a global news story? We hope and pray they will hear the mother's plea and refrain from such brutality."
Rep. Joe Pitt (R-Penn.) also called for Tursun's release. "I call on the Chinese government to immediately intervene in order to stop any forced abortion from taking place," said Pitt. "Though we know Chinese authorities regularly used forced abortions to enforce its coercive population control program, carrying out this brutal procedure with the world watching Arzigul Tursun's case would

Meanwhile a thousand others who didn’t get media attention underwent the forced abortions quietly.
She is indeed brave. I hope other women will be strengthened to stand up for themselves and their unborn children because of her.
Beyond the sheer horribleness of forced abortion ... this is so sexist.
If they want fewer children in China why don’t they forcibly sterilize 75% of the men? They wouldn’t dare, that’s why! So they go after the women ... insipid little cowards that they are.

Apparantly she is from Turkestan. I wonder if she is also Christian or Muslim? Which would have a lot to do with her being opposed to abortion as well as the 1 child policy.

Please note she is 6 months pregnant.
If the chinese keep madly aborting their unborn females they will eventually render themselves extinct..
She was “only entitled to 2 children”. Same line of thinking from ZeroBama says we’re only entitled to even less of our income. We must share it more than we already do, for the good of everyone. Yet we are not entitled to know if he is even a natural born US Citizen. No word from the MSM on that issue. Nothing to see here...move along.

It seems there must be a catch. She and her baby will be in my prayers.
Sickening, I know. At least word of the one is getting out at all and drawing international attention. My prayers go out to all of them.

Horrifying. I wish we could force all our leftist to move to China or Russia and see how they really like communism. Now they are forcing it on the rest of us. I didn’t used to hate our leftists but I’m getting there.
