Will wonders never cease?! Hank Williams Jr. says he will run for the U.S. Senate as a Republican candidate during the next primary election. It is my understanding that Hank has already talked with Sen. Lamar Alexander and former Sen. Bill Frist -- both Republicans -- regarding his candidacy.
Those of you who keep up with country music news by reading this weekly column are already aware that Hank spent a lot of time on the campaign trail with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain's vice presidential running mate.
Although I may like his music and politics, what in th hell qualifies a honky tonk singer to be a US Senator?
It keeps the goobers happy.
Al Franken/Hank Jr. CAGE FIGHT!
I’d pay to see that ;o)
Good question. And what qualifies a Community Organizer to be a senator?
Hank, Jr. could not do any worse than the other 99 bozos. Let him have a go at it. What else have we got to lose?
Common sense conservatism!
Wow, this nation that was once the beacon of light to the free world to an absolute joke.
The same thing that qualifies all the others that are in Congress. Nothing.
I'd take Joe the Plumber, Palin, and Hank any day.
Same thing that DISqualifies Chuck Schumer, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd.
So Hank is going to take on a sitting Republican Senator?
He would get blasted over one of his songs.
I say the same...Hank Jr definitely will be no worse than most of the other Senutors.
Maybe politics is not a “Family Tradition” with Williams...but the US Senate could use his “Attitude Adjustment” and definitely a “Country Boy Can Survive”
A shyster is qualified, yes? A community agitator is qualified, yes? A professional parasite is qualified, yes?
He will have to get a hell of a lot more sober than he was the last time I saw him.
Yeppers.
Hank why do you drink?
Hank why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Stop and think it over, try to put yourself in my unique position
If I get stoned and sing all night long it’s a family tradition

Well, let’s see, he DOES have certain advantages over some others;
1. He IS a natural born citizen.
2. He DOES have sense enough to come in out of the rain and I suspect he knows that Franklin Roosevelt did not go on television and address the nation as president in 1929.
3. He has made an honest living without sponging off the taxpayers or stealing.
4. He believes in the second amendment for sure.
5. He is aware that there are not 57 states in the union.
Sounds pretty qualified to me.
Kinda like Jesse Ventura, former professional wrestler. Go figure.

The same thing that qualifies Al Franken?
