Republican lawmakers and anti-tax groups assailed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget plan today, saying any tax increase would further devastate the economy.

Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, said Schwarzenegger is wrong to promote his plan as equitable because it proposes roughly half spending cuts and half tax increases.

"Any tax increase at this point in time would be a shifting of more pain away from government and adding to the pain of the private sector," Coupal said " It's not a question of equity. In fact it would be inequitable by shifting more of that pain to the private sector."

Appearing on the Capitol steps in front of a 12-foot-high inflatable ATM machine, lawmakers said the state should ask voters to "redirect" tax money they approved for mental health programs (Proposition 63) and early childhood development (Proposition 10).

The Governator is having one crisis after another and his RINO answers are:

1) Global Warming is causing the fires.

2) Let’s increase taxes to support this out of control government.

3) We need Bailout $$ from the Federal Government.

Please take away his Republican credentials!

Both 10 and 63 were some of the most brain-dead ideas I have ever read. California liberals love to spend other people’s money.

Arnie's plan to raise taxes again is brilliant!! Just look at what a unqualified success it's been in MI.

The drum they need to be beating on is the anti-spending drum.
