I hope conservatives do not trash him like they do Bush.

Most criticism of President Bush on FR in richly deserved. We are not a Republican board, we are a Conservative board.

You will be waiting a long time to get me agree on that point.

I do think criticism of Bush and Jindal is warranted because neither is perfect. I do think there is a components of paleo conservatism that undermines conservatives like Palin, Jindal and Bush. I think Palin and Jindal could be more conservative than Bush. I think Bush has been plenty conservative.

Complicity with Bush bashing is the dirty secret we conservatives don’t talk about regarding our losses.

President Bush has done nothing positive for this country?

That’s basically been the received wisdom of Republicans and Democrats since 2005. That is flat out ridiculous and if conservatives had defended the positive aspects of Bush’s record, it could have made a big difference in both 2006 and 2008.

Jindal and Palin are DEFINITELY more conservative than Bush. They are not (from what I have seen) big proponents of larger government intervention - nor have they fallen for the global agenda garbage....

The “falling for it” is a function of a political system that does not provide loyalty from followers.

Jindal and Palin may find themsleves ‘having to’ fiscally intervene within their state economies to prevent energy prices from crushing them politically.

their potential supporters would be wise to recognize this reality.

Again, government surpluses are actually worse than deficits.

I said ‘most of the criticism on FR’, not all criticism everywhere. It is true there are some non-conservative criticisms here, mostly from opponents of the WOT, but most Freepers are opposed to the areas he was in agreement with McCain OR the big spenders in Congress.

with a shortfall estimated to top $1 billion _ could test the popularity of Gov. Bobby Jindal, his strength at the state Capitol and his mastery of political backroom haggling.

The fact is the Louisiana Senate is overwhelmingly Democrat (21-15). The Louisiana House is barely Democrat (50-48 with 3 Ind.).

Jindal gets the credit because he was elected statewide. He also gets the crap.

I look forward to seeing Gov. Jindal respond to any budgetary shortfalls with conservative solutions, i.e. budget cuts and hopefully tax/fee cuts to spur the economy and thereby raise revenues to the state.

Similarly, I look forward to seeing how Gov. Palin handles reductions in oil revenues to her state that will result from the big drop in crude futures prices.

Take care everyone!

I don’t know Jindal very well and my primary impression is positive, but I have a bad feeling that conservatives are willing to sell him out and let democrats take over again. That is really sad.

Some seem to want a purity test for their conservative politicians. Any move they don't like, and they want to throw them off the boat.

No No No...I expected Bush to fight the war properly like McCain was pushing for a long time...the SURGE! Instead Bush let Rumsfeld run the war likea bean counter.

The spending veto would have been nice on all those BILLIONs in spending bills from both dimocrats and repubs.

That is my fear.

I really think we should all keep clear conservative goals in mind but evaluate politicians within the continuum of available options.

Blanco was about as bad as it could get in Louisiana. She was probably most responsible for problems with Katrina— along with Nagin.

We need to understand when conservatives have been successful and stand by them.

Democrats are viciously loyal to the most absurd of characters.

From my memory Bush was a “consensus” governor in Texas.
Which means he kept the dimocrats happy. Which then follows that he could’nt have been a raging conservative. He must have spent enough to keep every one fat and happy.

But I have not spent time doing detailed research on this subject.

Remember how wildly popular Miz Rice was around here a couple years ago?

I don't remember Condi ever being as popular here as Bobby is now.

Grow up!

I thought JohnnyZ's defense of Bobby was perfectly reasonable. What was wrong with it?

It is called a discussion board, therefore you have a discussion. Hope that is not to hard to understand, people have different points of view.

Dude! All you did was mock his post and then tell him to “Grow up”. In order to have a discussion there needs to be an exchange of ideas (such as in his post which included points he made in favor of Bobby). So I asked you to explain why you objected to his post and you reply with more substanceless mockery while defending it as “discussion”. Your posts are like a caricature of internet trolling.

Funny how often Democrat rule leads to grim new realities.

That seems to be his style.

He's been knocking conservatives and conservative principles regularly.

LOL at caricature of a troll...heh

Good to see you
