He's up in '10.
How much do these union guys get paid to assemble a car?
Great.
There goes the last Ohio Republican.......
...sigh.......
Total compensation (wage and benefits) average per hour is $74. Compare that to $48 for Toyota workers.
more than I do as a logistics officer in the USAF. 23 dollars an hour to drive a forklift.
NO money for you!
Just save the Corvette, Lexus beats Cadillac IMO. Make heavy trucks and that’s it. They had 30 years to catch on to what’s happening in Japan and Germany, if they can’t figure it out by now, forget it.
To be fair, he’s between a rock and a hard place. Ohio’s economy is very dependent on high-end manufacturing and is already near the highest in the nation.
I’ve said that we needed each of the 3 seats above 40 to maintain the filibuster so 2 or 3 senators (even if they are RINOs) can have cover when elections come up in ‘10.
Still, we are in for a tough 2 years. Republicans have more seats up in 2010 and there are no open seats on the democratic side and only one incumbent won with less than 55% (Ken Salazaar from Blue Colorado).
I may as well vote for his Dem opponent. Hopefully, a real conservative will step forward between now and 2010 to challenge him.
Chapter 11 is the only way out.
And they wonder why 50 million registered voters don’t show up at the polls.
If I hear one more idiot say $75 I’m going to scream.
Most of the skilled trades make around $25-$27 per hour. It depends. I’ve heard people complain about this but I’d like to see THEM work in one of those god-awful plants that are like Siberia in winter and Hell in summer.
I don’t know what the assembly or production folks make.
In the meantime, Ford is now hiring the new guys in at around $12 per hour. How can a man (or woman) support a family on that. Even here in Ohio, that is peanuts. My little niece is a dental assistant - just 19 years old - not a hygienist - just assistant and SHE makes $14 per hour. I wasn’t making much more than that as a paralegal with many years experience (a few years ago).
There is no way to figure some of the salaries. Every year Parade magazine does a very eye-opening article on “What People Make” and you’d be surprised at how many low-paying jobs there exist for college grads and how many high-paying jobs there are for people who just don’t mind working their butts off....
Even some lawyers make peanuts.
My personal philosophy is simple. I think people who make things and build things should make GOOD money. I think the people who design these things should as well. Lives DEPEND on it. Bridges, buildings, cars, and other things that are not built right can kill or injure. If the guy at Starbucks screws up a latte, whoopdedoo.
This is BS. I have no idea where this info comes from. This might be what the companies PAY when you factor in total benefits but there is no way. I have family in the auto industry and this is a crock. I WISH they were making $73 an hour. That is $151,000 plus a year.
I can’t wait to share this so they can all laugh. This is pathetic.
Not only that but consider this: If GM alone tanks, you are talking about millions of people will be out of jobs - where are they going to go?? Starbucks can’t hire them all. Hey, even Starbucks is closing locations.
All I can imagine is all these millions of people now needing unemployment bennies and other help. There was an article in the Plain Dealer the other day stating how the state of Ohio’s unemployment fund is perilously low.
All of this would put a great burden on the states that have these workers. The end result = more foreclosures and more instability. If this happens, I could see a depression far worse than the one that happened in the 30’s. The reason is because people were much more decent and civil back then and did not have the “gimme gimme mindset.”
He knows he’s in trouble in 2010, Ohio is blue and getting bluer. No room at the inn for a conservative, so putting on the suit of a RINO is the last refuge of the desperate. And there are a lot of those measuring themselves for that RINO suit.
Another RHINO trying to destroy what’s left of the GOP!
Throw the BUM OUT!
No MORE BAIL OUTS!
The Ford Motor Co. said they could not make a profit building economical, compact cars, with the wages they are paying. Shut them down.
No...let the damned Big Free go broke... and take the blood sucking unions with them.
