What is a “top” Senator? Do Shelby and Kyl get two or three votes each?

Good. Now I’d like to hear a strong statement from McConnell.

Check out the map at the bottom of the page. Unions may not own the nation's workforce at present, but they own the Democrat parts of the country:

''The House is ready to do it,'' said Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. ''There's no downside to trying.''

Oh, I feel so much better knowing Barney Frank has blessed the plan. After all, for years he's been saying what a wonderful job was being done by management over at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. You know, on second thought, Barney wouldn't know a good idea if it bit him in the ass.

This bailout is not like Chrysler's of years ago. This would be an equity interest. This Marxist approach means that, despite the gov't inability to make the auto industry "go green" fast enough, with ownership they can dictate what's built. Pretty soon you'll be driving a new GM car powered by two gerbils in a squirrel cage.

The bailout simply postpones the auto execs from making hard decisions and telling the UAW it can no longer afford what the union demands. This is precisely what Pelosi, et al, want. With a bailout, the auto industry sidesteps the tought decisions is must make and it will continue to hemorrhage cash--yours and my cash. Wake up, you political dirtbags, that's MY money, not yours.

After 20 Jan the Dems can do whatever they want. In two years they’ll be wearing a 200-pound albatross around their collective necks.

Top Republican Senators Oppose Automaker Bailout

ok, now What are Senators FOR? nevermind, pretty sure I'd rather hear from someone who knows how to come up with a solution! We know of the failed union business model....is there a non-union business model that could succeed, or is manufacturing due for termination?

The bailout is nothing but disguised protectionism. Yeah; that’s the answer since it worked so well during the Great Depression.

Again, if you go back to the time before FDR politically widened the interpretation of the general welfare clause and ignored 10th A. protected state powers in order to start his constitutionally unauthorized New Deal federal spending programs, the federal Constitution doesn't delegate power to the feds to bail anybody out of anything anyway.

Demanding that the feds respect the following statutes that they have hypocritically been swearing to defend since the time of FDR would arguably shut down the renegade federal government.

Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution (emphasis added) in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

10th Amendment: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Stand your ground.

An Auto Industry Bailout Will Fail.

P.S. Did you know that the Big 3 U.S. automakers are also going to ask Canada for a bailout? They're holding off until they get the dough from U.S. taxpayers first.

That’s nice.

I’ll try to act surprised when the bailout (in a bigger form) passes anyway with Republican backing...

To put it bluntly, the Big 3 are centered in MI, NY, OH, CA - all big blue states (with exception of OH, maybe)

What do Republican Senators, now mostly in the South, owe to those states?

In fact, these Republican Senators’ constituents, if they are auto employees at all, now are employees mainly of Toyota, Honda and BMW.

The bailout if there has to be one, should require that the executives get a paycut and that manufactuering jobs are brought back to America.

And cancel the bailout for wallstreet altogther.

No MORE BAILOUTS to ANYONE. I know if I went into business making buggy whips, I doubt I’ll get a bailout.
