Democrat Mark Begich now leads Sen. Ted Stevens (R) by just over 1,000 votes with more than 90 percent of the total ballots counted in the high-profile Alaska Senate race.
The Alaska Division of Elections counted another 14,500 votes on Friday and Begich's lead increased from 841 before the day started to 1,022 when the counting ended.

I can’t say I will shed a tear if this crook loses. Now the Minnesota Senate I will be upset if Coleman loses.
Thank you Senator Stevens you selfish $@#!
I wished Ted had not tried for re-election again. Even though whoever ran on the Republican ticket for that seat would probably have had an uphill battle and the seniority would be gone anyway.
This is a race I wouldn’t mind seeing a democrat win.
Adding another mentally ill alcoholic Leftwingtard to the US Senate could be a seminal event.
This is a race I wouldnt mind seeing a democrat win.
As odious, selfish, and crooked as Stevens is, I want this seat to remain Republican. For the time being that’s just how it’s got to be. Should he win, then he must be pressured incessently and mercilessly to resign, but he must win.
He is not Ted Stevens (R) but rather Ted Stevens (C) Convict.
I thought he was a recovered good person now. Seriously, I read that this guy is a pretty good guy (and that was on FR)...did I get the info wrong?
Why? He is a crook and probably would ignore calls for stepping down. So what will happen? A big dog and pony show the Democrats will have that will last two years or start 18 months from now so that the 2010 election will be about selfish Stevens again. I say take out the trash now while we can.
Are we talking about the Minnesota race? On one side there’s Coleman. On the other side there’s a foul mouthed, foul tempered, mentally ill, mentally deficient “unrecovered” alcoholic.
Sarah Palin and McCain were dumb for not endorsing Stevens.
Palin should have strongly supported Stevens while calling for him to retire effective January 1st.
Sarah was given some really stupid advice by the McCain campaign.
I hope Sarah is happy that Stevens lost the election . . .
It’s a six year term.
Mitch McConnel already said prior to the election that Stevens would not be seated even if reelected. If Stevens pulls out this election, the seat would be vacant, and there would be a special election to fill it.
I think Stevens is going to be pushed out when it’s all said and done. Additionly it looks like he will lose this race. We should know by Tuesday, Nov. 18 as that is when they are scheduled to finish the count.
From another article:

Senate Republicans will decide whether or not to kick embattled Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) out of the Republican Conference at a members-only meeting on Tuesday his 85th birthday. Republicans will meet behind closed doors at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to decide Stevens fate. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) plans to offer a motion that would oust Stevens from the Conference and take away his committee assignments.
Can the Minority Leader expell a Senator?
If Ted is reelected the Majority Democrats will not vote to expell Stevens.
The Dem who looks to replace him is probably just as much of a crook as the other pukes Sarah has been kicking out of office.
It would pay to find out who this Mark Begich is ~ his father, for example, was an Alaskan politician. He and Hale Boggs (Cokie Roberts father) were killed in a plane crash in Alaska.
However, you look up Mark Begich you find Young, Murkowski, and a host of other old guard types who created the most corrupt Dem and Republican political machines in North America.
The younger Mark here is the elder's son, and he's heir to the corrupt Alaskan Democrat political machine!
Mark is the defacto leader of the corrupt old guard.
Which is to say he's definitely gonna' be a short timer!
I recall that the DemocRATS' "leadership" also agrees with this.
What would that do?
Sarah Palin is the Governor of Alaska and would have appointed a Republican to the seat, instead of a Democrat.
