Both the Democratic and Republican National Committees are likely to have new leadership next year.
Former Democratic Governor Howard Dean of Vermont is stepping down, having completely recovered from his unfortunate reputation as an erratic and wildly liberal 2004 presidential contender. As chairman of the DNC, he adopted a controversial "50-state strategy" that had the party pouring resources into states it normally didn't contest. His strategy paid off this year as Barack Obama won such states as Indiana and Virginia that had not voted Democratic at the presidential level since Barry Goldwater's landslide loss in 1964. Unknown yet is whom Mr. Dean's replacement will be, but it's certainly going to be someone President-elect Obama will have confidence in -- campaign manager David Plouffe comes to mind. On the Republican side, the jockeying to replace current GOP Chairman Mike Duncan has begun. Mr. Duncan has been a competent administrator and fundraiser but the widely perceived need for new blood in the wake of the party's second consecutive drubbing at the polls makes him unlikely to be re-elected. Several candidates are lining up to replace him. Michigan GOP State Chairman Saul Anuzis is actively campaigning on a platform of reinvigorating the party's grass roots and returning to basic conservative principles. South Carolina Party Chairman Kalton Dawson is touting his fundraising abilities as he rounds up votes among fellow RNC members.

Or it could be the first shot fired by the RINO's. What democratic politician has left office under fire, in a similar manner? Remember the book controversy? No such outcry over Bill & Hillary's books.
We have traitors in leadership position of our party, some well known others are deep moles.
Yes he does. That said he is among the brightest thinkers in the party. He certainly should have his ideas considered. I would not support him for President, or VP, but I would have no problem with him schooling Sarah.
You know, if the Clintons and Obama never stop campaigning, why can’t conservatives learn from that? Conservatism requires thought and logic. It has to be TAUGHT. It’s easy, apparently, to get carried away with emotion, but I believe there are many who voted for Clinton and Obama who are conservative at heart, they just don’t know it. We need a strong, conservative RNC and other conservative groups who can produce timely radio and TV ads that actually TEACH what conservatism is and point out the flaws in the plans and programs of the Demonrats. Educating Americans is the only way to reignite and grow the conservative movement. I wish I knew how to get something like this going at a grassroots level.
And I think he should.
Newt has enough baggage to circle the globe three times with clean underwear...
*snert*
Most important in my opinion is someone who is NOT AFRAID of what the media may say. Someone that will tell the TRUTH and not care what the media says. Someone that speaks the truth and then apologizes saying he didn’t mean to offend-that has to end. I’m so sick of that.
I’m pretty sure it was Newt too. Rush had him on his show after he said it to clarify.

GOP Senator: McCain Betrayed Republican Principles
Some noteworthy articles about politics, foreign and military affairs, IMHO, FReepmail me if you want on or off my list.
“Next time, try breaking the Prozacs in half.”
...and, despite what he has done in the past, it wasn't Newt.
It was more than the one statement. It was the statement in the context of his position as the chief spokesdude for conservatism at that point. It was the completely predictable MS response and the ease with which it made the leader of our movement look vain and petty.
It is irrelevant whether or not his complaint is justified. If he's willing to risk the effectiveness of his position and to give ammo to the slavering drive-bys, I have to wonder if he's more taken with the respect allegedly due his office than with the duty he owes to those who support him.
And there is still his marital history to deal with. If it is indeed true that while his wife was in the hospital and struggling with cancer he told her that he was leaving her and taking up with somebody else, then the triumph of vanity over principle and prudence which the Air Force 1 remark suggests is reinforced.
It is "the liberal spin on things" to cast aspersions on those who hold a different opinion from one's own. His supporters' acting like liberals will not persuade me that Newt has matured enough to keep his eyes on the prize.
Thanks for the ping!
I like Newt, but am disppointed on the global warming count.
As if you know anything about Newt’s political beliefs... other than that “Gore-bull” warming commercial, right?
Problem is, Newt is in this only for himself, with Conservatism and the GOP coming in a distant second.
.............
You mean like Obama is in it only for himself?
Gingrich is a has been. We need someone new, someone who believes in upholding the Constitution, someone who can communicate, educate, and lead. There will never be another Reagan, but the more like him, the better.
..........
preferably someone who has no clue as to how congress works. right?
We gave him a heck of a congress 14 years ago. His first time around could be construed as squandering a mandate.
........
You have this backwards. Newt gave us a republican congress for the first time in 50 years.
Anybody over the age of 50 is out. We need new blood, a new generation of Republicans, those not tainted by corruption and fecklessness.
And I say this as a 54 YO conservative.
,,,,,,,,
preferably the less they understand inside the beltway politics the better. further it would be bad for the republicans to have a knowledgable inside fighter like Newt take the invisible job of head of the RNC
