The “Republican governor eyeing a presidential run in 2012” appears to be Minnesota’s Tim Pawlenty. Pawlenty used his time at yesterday’s roundtable discussion to cast himself as the “modern” Republican while casting aspersions on the traditional conservative message, calling for outreach to the “new demographics,” deriding the GOP for allegedly being 15 years behind in the use of the Internet, and calling for the party not to be led by “a crank.” Pawlenty appears to have John McCain’s penchant for attacking conservatives rather than those in the other party.
Pawlenty in Miami was publicly angry, agitated, and even cranky, possibly because he found himself at odds with the far more conservative tone of every other speaker here. Hundreds of RGA members, who paid thousands of dollars to attend this Conference, wildly applauded “red meat” conservative pronouncements by speakers and not the more moderate and conservative-jabbing words by Pawlenty. And then there’s his “Palin problem,” real or imagined, that hit the fan yesterday in front of the national media, possibly upon the insistence of Pawlenty himself, as the above-reported comments to CNN by an anonymous presidential aspirant indicate.

The Dems are hiring, I hear.
I’ve never really liked Pawlenty all that much. He’s clearly in the McCain/Lindsey Graham wing of the party. His only real claim to fame is that he got elected twice in a blue state in tough years for the GOP. He may be a good guy, and I’d rather have him as MN Gov than some Democrat, but I don’t want him in the party leadership, and DEFINITELY don’t want him running for president.

Well, he is right about the internet thing - for every site like FreeRepublic there are three or four fanatical lib/dem sites out there, and they make major efforts at pushing their agenda.
Pawlenty, Crist and Arnie need to just switch parties.
Yeah, he is, however it’s not like he’s the only one that recognizes that.

Conservatives should probably be developing an “Option B” if it looks like the Republican party is going to side track us once again. Now would be the time to build a strong caucus. This would start by coming to some agreement on what a “conservative” is and what core principals that entails. Then using this consistently to develop policies. This would make it easier to articulate those policies and educate the public on their history and value. This does not mean being a one issue pro-life party.
Perhaps we should call ourselves “traditionalists.”
RINO's are the reason why we keep losing. To give up your principles is to accept those of your adversaries, and to advertise to others that you too can be bought for the right price.
Why do you think McCain wanted him or Lieberman to run with him, and then was argued out of his foolishness by his key staff members. Pawlenty has stars in his eyes, spelling out “2 0 1 2” but Palin is just sunning herself by the pool, knowing that if she wants it she’ll probably get it.
I heard Pawlenty on the ?? Hannity show the other day, and he sounded like more of a wimp than John McCain backing away from the Jeremiah Wright -G-damn America comment.
It was pathetically weak coming from the supposed Republican leader where election fraud is being committed right under his nose.
Just when I think the GOP can't get any more puppy whipped, they get more puppy whipped.
A week or so ago I floated the idea of a RINO Hall of Fame here at FR. Some people liked the idea. The concept is we list 50 or so, vote 25 in at the start, then add one or two each month. Or as needed. 50 may be way too low, considering.
