The two men formally running to lead the Republican National Committee are reaching out to bloggers as an initial step to boosting their candidacy and hopefully, growing the party.
Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis announced his candidacy via Twitter and quickly organized a conference call with new media to discuss his bid Wednesday. He held a follow-up call as he boarded a plane from the Republican Governors Association Meeting on Friday, emphasizing his willingness to democratize information coming from the party.
Obama succeeded because he built an infrastructure and when he became popular they [his supporters] could plug into it Its our job as a party to facilitate that infrastructure, he said.
Former GOP Maryland Senate candidate declared his intent to become RNC Chair on Hannity & Colmes Thursday evening and held a call with right-leaning bloggers the next day.
He said he felt called to run because I am sick and tired of the whining.
Steele faulted the current GOP leadership for the failure to communicate that has undermined our efforts for some time now, on issues like immigration. He said that too often Republicans have been manhandled by liberals from discussing issues out of fear of racism.
We looked stupid, we looked immature, we looked ugly, we looked mean, he said.
He mentioned that President-elect Barack Obama played the race card beautifully, just beautifully, against GOP presidential candidate John McCain to prevent Republicans from discussing Obamas relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Steele said he could be relied upon to stand for fiscal responsibility as Chairman. When I ran for the U.S. Senate I was appalled we were spending all this friggen money on a Bridge to Nowhere! Cmon! Lets be reasonable! he said.
He called the $700 billion financial bailout crazy and absolutely against the interest of the American people.
Michigan activist Anuzis touted his credentials as a fiscal reformer as well.
He told bloggers that he worked hard to bring Republicans in line during a controversial vote to raise taxes on Michigan. "We came out and said we would not support" Republicans who voted for the increase Anuzis said. "We went out and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and ran ads on talk radio...not only have I talked the talk I have walked the walk in Michigan. We have specific examples. This is not something theoretical."
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
A little more on the subject...
A: Studies show enormous disparities still exist in education, healthcare, employment and economic opportunities along racial lines in the United States. I believe programs are still necessary to help close these divides. I support giving people opportunities. Programs must be fair to all Marylanders - of every color - and they should focus on economic empowerment.
Nope. He is head of the GOP in Michigan, and the state party is an absolute mess. More and more counties here are going blue, in spite of the fact that our gov is a lib dem, half our state legislator is in dem control, and the other half is just as bad--constantly aided and abetted by RINOs. The more I think about Anuzis being in contention, the angrier I get. In fact, I've lost a lot of respect for him because of his decision to run. We just got our asses handed to us in the mitten. Instead of Anuzis humbly admitting some responsibility for this, he has the hubris to set his sights further up. This says it all:
Obama succeeded because he built an infrastructure and when he became popular they [his supporters] could plug into it Its our job as a party to facilitate that infrastructure, he said.
If he honestly thinks that's the reason for the 0bama win, he has truly, well and completely lost touch with Michigan Republicans in general and mitten conservatives in particular.
Q: Your views on gun control?
A: My views are pretty much in line with the governor's. I grew up under some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. You can have all the gun control laws in the country, but if you don't enforce them, people are going to find a way to protect themselves. We need to recognize that bad people are doing bad things with these weapons. It's not the law-abiding citizens, it's not the person who uses it as a hobby.
Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?
A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what's the point of passing gun laws if we're not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that's where you need to start. We've got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it's about how we enforce the law.
.
Apparently Mr. Steele thinks the only legitimate use for a gun is not for self protection or to use to protect yourself and society from tyranny, but for hunting squirrels.
That’s great, preside over the R. disaster in Michigan and get promoted to do the same great job nationwide??? Anuzi shouldn’t even be considered....
I would say he is stupid.
He is correct that the system BO set up worked for him, but that misses the point.
It is like saying that I went to town because the road was there.
Yes, the road was there, but it takes motivation to use the road.
No motivation, no go.

I'm having a real hard time with the republican party at this time. They seem to have became democratic lite. I know, for the most part, that no one person is going to fill 100% of the bill we'd like, but there seems to be a lack of those not drinking the Kool-aid of the demorat-lite punch bowl. Went shopping, and there is very few people out there that can even get into a candidate's position! Till America faces reality, we shall continue down the dark path away from what made this country great, and slide towards the evils of a socialistic/communist government....like America is going to have the morning of January 20th. |
The Republican Party simply has no core principles. At least the democrat party has core principles. They are intrinsically evil principles, but at least they have principles.
The democrats leave no room for dissent in such things as Abortion and Homosexual rights and Global Warming and political correctness, but the Republicans are just spineless on all those issues.
The thing is that Michael Steele is just another spineless and unprincipled Democrat light in Republican clothing. And here is the politically incorrect thing to say here:
If Michael Steele were white, then he would not be in the running for the GOP Chair.
Because he is black everyone seems to overlook his glaring inconsistencies and his waffling on alleged core Republican values.
The republicans have not been able to agree enough on all the important issues to form a solid and universally acceptable platform...but correcting this problem is a problem in of itself because there is a horrible lack of leadership that everyone can agree on and all of us here at FR are a prime example of the failure of the republicans to agree on the issues and the leadership. Yes Newt has baggage, but the solutions he offers make a lot of sense. Fred has solid conservative principles. Steele is fantastic at selling conservatism. Sarah is clearly part of our future. But, we need to examine all the other young and upcomers lik Jindal, etc. I think we need a good solid team to hammer out a solid and universally-acceptable conservative platform and bring on board and groom a full slate of leaders. No more losers from the past...Then choose a ramrod to head the GOP and make it all happen!
I have met him. Saul Anuzis is a good strategic thinker and a down to earth nice guy.
Here’s some background on him.

He’s also got a refreshingly clever side to him that I think helps him make his points VERY effectively

ping.
That's hilarious--and dead on
Works for me.
Thanks for the ping... Primary Challenge is something all of us have to focus on this year to hold their feet to the fire and watch how they all vote. If they step out of bounds they will become the focus of a primary election and then we get a conservative ion there to replace them.
I already own http://www.primarychallenge.org/ and will use this as the start of it for 2009 or start another. We need to make a list of RINO’s to watch and put pressure on in congress and let them know exactly what we are doing. I am fired up and ready to go.
That's why I don't think Saul is the right choice. We need an abrasive person who isn't afraid of making enemies. Did RR ever care what the Dims thought of him? That was the mistake the McCain and Palin's handlers made in the last election: trying not to offend anyone.
Anuzis’ tenure in Michigan can best be described as a “miserable failure”. It’s pretty laughable he wants to move up. “It’s not his fault” say his backers it’s McCain’s foo pulling out of Michigan. The state house is now a big rat majority and the GOP lost a Supreme Court Seat in addition to the defeats of Walberg and Knollenberg. In 06 you had the weak Granholm win reelection.
