I think that was the most frustrating part of watching fire coverage today, seeing home after home go up in flames, with not one firefighter or police checking the house to see if anyone was inside, or to see if there was any fire apparatus available to use as prepared by the homeowner.
It's like watching those firestorm films all over again, with Doctor George Fischbeck explaining to horrified viewers how there was hundreds of thousands of gallons of water sitting in pools while firefighters were unable to use fire hydrants, and how homeowners should install those pumps.
I'm not finger-pointing, but just having seen someone pull up, and at least look, would have made me feel far more comfortable.
As for not checking the houses...it's Kaleeforneeah, where the unions rule. The unions probably deemed it too dangerous for first responders to respond.
