Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

As to houses as fuel: If it has a shake roof, yes, it is fuel. Shake roofs are perfect tinder for wind-blown embers.

Western intelligence agencies fear that Al Qaeda terrorists are planning a “global fireball” in a new departure in its war on the West.
Deliberately lighting forest blazes in Europe, the US and Australia would not only stretch emergency services but leave insurance companies facing multi-billion pound damage bills as the credit crunch bites.
The fires would also create a pollution disaster, with billions tons of climate change gases escaping into the atmosphere.
The so-called “forest jihad” is being championed by Islamic scholars and Osama Bin Laden’s terror strategists who believe setting fire to dry woodlands will produce maximum damage for minimum risk.

The fire hoses melted inside that trailer park in Sylmar....after the firefighters dropped them and ran for their lives
Is it true they lost about 600 homes there today?
FOX News has the Yorba Linda Water District guy on the phone....says the pump station burned down.
There should be a water tank on the top of the hill!
