BNP's shock victory in council election sparks fears of surge in votes across Britain
The Daily Mail (U.K.) / various ^ | November 14, 2008 | Ian Drury

Posted on 11/14/2008 3:45:46 PM PST by Stoat

Critics have accused the Government of failing to prepare cash-strapped councils for the influx of immigrants by giving them the resources to invest in public services.

This has left schools, health facilities and transport struggling to cope with greater numbers.

The resurgence of the BNP will also spark fears among the main political parties that the radical group could prosper at future by-elections in the run-up to the next General Election.

In a result which revived huge concerns, the far-right party won its first district council seat in Lincolnshire in the Fenside ward of Boston.

BNP candidate David Owens polled 279 votes - a 138-majority over the ruling Boston Bypass Independent candidate Carl Smith. The Conservatives came third.

In his victory speech, Mr Owens said local media organisations had tried to 'hoodwink' the public into thinking the 'BNP was a racist party'.

He said: 'We are not a racist party - we are passionate about our country. I think the people of Fenside and the people of Boston have said tonight that immigration is at capacity here.'

BNP celebrate by-election victory

Davidl Owens, BNP councillor
Mr Owens took the seat from the Boston By-pass Independent Party

The British National Party has elected its first district councillor in Lincolnshire after winning a by-election in Boston.

David Owens won the seat by a 138-vote margin over Carl Smith of the Boston By-pass Independent Party.

Mr Owens, who won the Boston Fenside ward with 279 votes, said the people of the town wanted a change.

The council is controlled by Boston Bypass Independents, who have lost six councillors since 2007.

The independents, who won control of the council in May 2007 after a campaign promising a by-pass for the town, have had four defections to the Better Boston Party and two by-election defeats.

BREAKING-NEWS-UPDATE-AND-VIDEO.4693656

Mr Owens told The Standard: "We are extremely pleased to be elected; I am extremely pleased.
"This is a first in Lincolnshire for the BNP."

Mr Owens said he hoped what had happened in Boston could eventually be felt in Parliament

David Owens, British National Party by-election candidate in the Fenside ward seat on the Boston Borough Council, Lincolnshire, has beaten all comers, piling up more votes than the Tories, Labour, Lib-Dems and UKIP combined.

The incredible result, achieved on a 22.1 percent turnout in Thursday’s election, saw Mr Owens (image) cruise to a comfortable win with 279 votes. The second placed candidate was an independent, who polled 141 votes. Next came the Tories, with 119 votes, Labour with 64 votes, UKIP with 24 votes and the Lib-Dems with 23 votes.

“The BNP campaign was fought on national issues, and on immigration in particular,” said Councillor Wayne McDermott, the BNP’s East Midlands election officer.

“There are two important implications in this result,” Mr McDermott continued. “The first is that there are a large number of similar wards in and around Boston, in which this result could easily be replicated. Boston therefore has the potential to become a key area for the BNP.

“The other important factor is the total collapse of UKIP. In the 2004 Euro elections, Lincolnshire was one of the strongest areas to come out for UKIP, and it is clear that the BNP has now surpassed that group as the premier anti-EU party of choice for those voters.”

“”The resurgence of the BNP will also spark fears among the main political parties that the radical group””

That’s rich, Calling BNP “the radical group”. Same MSM there as is here.

Congratulations to Mr Owens and the BNP!

Britain for the British! Congratulations to the BNP. Wish we had a similar organization here — one not full of nutbars, that is.

Indeed...they call the Patriots of Great Britain the usual names such as ‘racists’ just as when anyone over here in the USA DARES to suggest that we have a definable and special national culture that is worth protecting. It’s the same lies but it’s such a shame that just as the BNP is gaining power in the UK, the Socialists are doing the same over here. “sigh”

Agreed.  Hopefully we can take a few lessons from the BNP and do more to protect America and her traditions before it's all too late.

You do realise that the BNP’s last leader, John Tyndal liked to dress in lederhosen with a swastika armband an make speaches extolling the virtues of Herr Hitler don’t you? That the BNP is seen as a ‘racist party’ is not exactly unreasonable, considering it’s membership and history...

They are having many of the same sorts of problems in the UK that we do here in the USA; the difference being that they have an increasingly popular and effective political party that is fearless of the smears and the name-calling and is forging ahead to protect British heritage.

I wish that some of the BNP Officers would come over here and show us how it's done, as it seems that we need quite a bit of help.

Our Dems should be so concerned about their Klansman (Byrd) and their open Socialist (Sanders)

Past leaders don't define the current party or it's goals; this taken from the BNP website

The British National Party believes in telling the truth, even if it is sometimes uncomfortable to hear or offensive to those who would rather bury their heads in the sand than face real problems in our society. But while we often pass quite critical comment on the impact of immigration, multi-culturalism and alien religions on the indigenous people of our lands, we have no animosity towards immigrants, their descendants or the followers of non-native religions. Nor do we intend to encourage others to feel such animosity, or believe that anything we have to say is likely to 'stir up hatred' against anyone.

In fact, we believe that by providing a peaceful and Constitutional outlet for the anger and the frustration felt by millions of our people over the undemocratic transformation of our country by our political masters, the BNP actually defuses tensions. Where there is 'hate' we seek to turn it into righteous anger and political action against the only people who deserve to be hated - the politicians who use our taxes to turn our country into a place where we often feel like strangers in our own land.

You honestly believe that the BNP has turned round from being a motley collection of sad neo-nazi knuckle-draggers to an actual, sensible political party in a few short years? It’s like the CPUSA suddenly starting to espouse free-market economic policy and being totally believable, even though the membership and a lot of the old guard have stayed in the party. The BNP was only a few short years ago, a bona-fide Mein Kampf affirming neo-nazi party. If it has changed it’s public policy agenda slightly in that time, I am more inclined to believe, as should you be, that it is a cynical campaign to fudge dearly-held beliefs to make the party more electable and acceptable to the voters, who would only learn the real agenda in the (thankfully unlikely) event of them actually winning any power...

You are reminding me of the Dems and the media here who love to smear American Patriots and the Minutemen as ‘racists’ when they are only trying to protect our own country. Rather than condescendingly instructing me on what I or anyone else here ‘should’ believe based upon something that is not at all an accurate reflection of the modern BNP, my hope is that you might be happy with your beliefs, which you are welcome to, and I will be happy with watching true British Patriots making powerful strides toward protecting their country, all with the knowledge that any vague hint of true “Nazi” idiocy will be instantly seized upon by the hyper-PC Left / media.

As for now, all they have is name-calling and smears.

If the BNP is the only place to go if you're interested in Britain staying British, then people will go to the BNP. And if these people are NOT neo-Nazis, then any original neo-Nazis will become a small minority in their own party over time.

The MSM in Englandistan is even worse than here though Fox News has essentially sold out. I think our news media now is just as bad.

They to portray the BNP as racists and antisemites though I think the BNP would do more to protect Jews against Islamists than the Labour party, Lib dems and probably even the Tories. The BNP is not the party pushing sharia law in the UK. Labour, Lib Dems and Tories will totally cave to Sharia.

Oddly, a black British filmmaker orginally from I think Trinidad did a film about 2 years on Somali Muslims attacking British blacks and calling them the N word.

The filmmaker caught hell. The cops sided with the Muslims. Political correctness gone crazy. Coming faster to the USA.

I would like to elucidate on your comment (chuckle).

Nick Griffin is the leader of the BNP. John Tyndall was expelled in 1999. I believe he was reinstated but broke away after disagreements with Griffen.

Both men were imprisoned for statements made likely "to cause racial hatred". Luckily for Griffin, he managed to have his sentence reduced to a fine.

My native country slit peoples ears, burnt people alive for their beliefs. I believe Tyndall was related to William Tyndall, a printer. I believe that Tyndall narrowly escaped martyrdom. That was a long time ago though. Thank God I no longer live there.

Correction to my above post.

William Tyndall was a printer who translated the bible into plain english. He continued his work in Europe. In 1535 he was betrayed in what is now Belgium. He was burned at the stake, for heresy. Though his executioners strangled him first- this being considered "merciful".
