In America, we do not have titles for life.Actually we do. It's a courtesy title based on your highest office. President Clinton is properly called "Mr. President" for as long as he lives.

In America, we do not have titles for life. He isn't an ambassador anymore Many titles, President, Governor, Senator and Ambassador, remain with the person, as a form of address. We unfortunately still refer to President Carter, for example.
