AP: Palinmania may stop Romney from running in 2012
Eh. If theres any truth to it, Id say Ambinder is a lot closer to the real reason than the AP is.
The surprising ascendancy of McCains eventual pick, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and her popularity among some GOP conservatives have left Romney wondering whether he could wage a viable second campaign for the White House, according to friends and advisers
While (Palin) may not be popular with the winning majority that Barack Obama put together, shes enormously popular with the losing minority that John McCain put together and that pretty closely mirrors Republican primary voters, said Rich Bond, former chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Charley Manning, a Massachusetts Republican operative who has worked as a Romney adviser, recently told a local radio interviewer: Id be surprised if Mitt ever ran again for president. I sure dont think it was the best experience of his life.
Taking on the Cuda is a fools errand only if two things occur: (1) the economy recovers, leaving Mitt without an obvious argument for why the base should prefer him to her, and (2) Huckabee doesnt run, thereby ceding social cons to Palin. Number one is obviously more important than number two since a sustained crisis would give the GOP a shot at the White House; absent that, Im not sure why any Republican would want to run in 2012, especially a guy like Mitt who had to eat a ton of campaign debt this year and would probably end up on the hook for a ton more trying to take down The Ones money machine.
For a guy whos supposedly sour on the idea, though, he sure seems to be making the right moves:

It also looks like the media is trying to nominate Romney or Charlie Chris for the next RINO to challenge Obama.
Absolutely. And the thing is, as we both know, she already IS smart, she just needs to sound smarter. She just has some articulation habits that need jolting. She sure has been a bright spot in all of this, practically taken the sting out of the loss for me, especially when we see that she is the first VP candidate ever to be talked about right after an election (that I know of).
Palin will run in 2012. Just as Dole ran in ‘96.
And the result will be that same.
Then we can move on to someone we can elect.
Ill give you the benfit of doubt you are sincere, despite your sign up date and the talking points.
*************
Not sure what the talking points were that you refer to. As for the sign up date, I’m still trying to figure out how a sign up date equates to having anything intelligent to say or the right to say it?
Does everyone here verify a persons sign up date to determine if anything they say is considered valid? How long do you have to be signed up as a member before you are considered ligit. I’ve noticed, especially lately that newbies are flamed here quite often. I’ve also read some posts from long time members that make you scratch your head and say, what the “*&%$”.
That is ok, I don’t plan to go anywhere, despite the doubting there is much to learn here, and if I can contribute I plan to do so, newbie or not.
I only know that SOOOOOOOOOO many people are jealous of Sara Palin. She is pretty and just so nice.
- and he is from Massachusetts. That didn’t come up too often during the primaries but I think it is an issue. People on both sides of the aisle raise an eyebrow over the breed of politician that comes from my state.
I think you have it backwards... It’ll be Romney/Palin.
Romney would have beaten Obama in debates hands-down.
Romney would have focused on Socialism long before it Joe The Plumber to cause McCain/Palin to stumble into the anti-socialism strategy.
Romney would have been an asset during this financial crisis because he could have articulately explained what to do unlike Obama and McCain.
Too many bigoted Romney-haters who need to open their minds to the notion that he might be the one to articulate fiscal conservativism. Palin can do it half-way, but she’s not savy enough and makes too many blunders.
“Todd Palin should be the first to see that shell need to study, etc., for 2012, and arrange as much of that as he can. She will now have as much money and as many connections as she needs to get her up to speed, and when she comes out the other side (My Fair Lady comes to mind), watch out Obama!”
Now, who would we suggest she have as her tutors?
I can think of a couple:
Fred Thompson on legal issues, the Constitution and Federalism, and on publishing clear, concise position papers.
Dick Cheney on Defense (he was SecDef after all), foreign policy, the Dark Side of the Force (muuhahahahahhahaha!)and on debate.. remember how well he disassembled trial lawyer Edwards to the ground?
Who could we get for economics?
Who also for speechmaking?(assuming she needs much on this, I don’t really think so)
She is already GREAT on governmental ethics and reform issues. Don’t think she needs anyone on energy issues, either. Environment is pretty well covered there, too.
The guys I named also have advantages in that they are both hunters and shooters like Palin, though Cheney and Thompson are upland bird guys.
LLS
I’ve got almost two months in and I still get ignored. But, no, I’m not going anywhere either. The old guard will just have to adjust.
I hope that some kind of formal organization emerges that supports Sarah’s political career. I would be eager to join and contribute.
That’s true, hopefully his star will dim big time.
Romney is the same backstabbing bastard to Gov. Palin
that he was to Sen Thompson and Sen. McCain.
"I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)
versus "We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldnt make any sense at all.""

I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform."

"A political party cannot be all things to all people.
It must represent certain fundamental beliefs
which must not be compromised to political expediency
or simply to swell its numbers."

Novak: Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign
Romney here imposing socialized medicine (HILLARYcare).
"Never send a monkey to do a man's job."
~ Captain Leo Davidson
Myth Romney ruined Massachusetts. He was rated a "C" by the CATO Institute.
That was before he tanked the state through his imposition of socialized medicine.
"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Now compare with a Conservative winner:
Is not THAT special. The rest talk (or less)
and Gov. Palin actually did something.
Republican Governors Pick Sanford as Chairman

[snip of the spin] Some Republican governors grumbled to CNN that Palin’s presence at the meeting distracted from the broader display of unity they were seeking. [end]
The next GOP Presidential candidate is going to be the one, who does the most to reform the party, set out a hard-hitting freedom agenda and is the most successful at rousing the grassroots against the evil Democrat agenda. Who will lead Americans against Shamnesty? Who will lead Americans against communized healthcare? Who will lead Americans against the bailouts, tax increases, environmentalism and economic stagnation/decline?
Romney couldn't strategize the last time and it looks like he can't strategize this time. So, go ahead and quit.
Do you know that Thomas Jefferson often spelled words differently than what was commonly accepted?
And could you give a couple of examples of Gov. Palin's alleged grammar miscues?
