Although a week has passed since California voters overturned that state's Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, the state has felt numerous aftershocks as gay rights activists have mounted large-scale protests directed at supporters of Prop 8, specifically the Mormon church.
... Demonstrations outside Mormon temples were reported over the weekend throughout California and more are anticipated nationwide. The Mormon church, however, is not the only Prop 8 supporter coming under criticism for its role in the controversial election, as Catholics and Evangelical churches have seen protests, as well.
An estimated 10,000 gay-rights protesters gathered in San Diego, Calif. outside Saddleback Church. The church is home to Pastor Rick Warren...
... Catholic churches were also protested Sunday, and one protest in Michigan turned ugly.
A group of about 30 gay rights activists from the group "Bash Back!" stormed into Mount Hope Church in Lansing. Mich. and unfurled a large rainbow flag at the pulpit. The group also tried to disrupt the Mass by banging on cans and shouting "Jesus was a homo."

That was the refrain in the 80’s as well.
“All we want is to be left alone in the privacy of our bedrooms.”
What a crock of sh*t that was!
You nailed both points. Thread hijacks turn off readers, and this story is not about Mormon dogma, but liberal attacks on supporters of Prop 8.
In this News thread, since Mormon dogma IS part of the core topic, Mormon opponents have had free rein:
Un huh.
I am not pro-Mormon. I am pro-FR rules. Click on the link in post 242. Since Mormon dogma is on-topic, no posts have been removed discussing such, even though it is in News/Activism.
Anyone without an obvious agenda can see that.
Thanks.
Thanks for all you do, AM.
"Thread HiJack" is ridiculous in this case. We all know that even if this thread were in another forum, the same debate would ensue. False piety claiming adherence to "The Rules" will not work.
Free Republic can be a roller coaster ride, a free-fire zone, a pitched battle. I respect and admire those who do their best to make it a place where we can all co-exist and even learn something.

Who is "we"?
More like you would do your level best to drag the discussion to what you want. This thread is about liberals attacking opponents of Prop 8. There is another thread on the same subject where the article also encompasses possible religious/dogmatic reasons why opponents feel it is 'safe' specifically to go after Mormons, and Mormon dogma is on-topic there as a result. If you find that too limiting, it's more of a reflection on you.
As I stated in the thread that you (or perhaps your twin Mod deleted):
This thread was an attempt by the LDS to get a "pat on the back" - - - - - and they didn't get it. Once that happened, they became confused, angry, and they lashed out.
I find no thread "too limiting." I do not have the power or the computer password to delete posts that have not violated these precepts:
Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.
You do - and you have - on this very thread.
When called on it, I believe you have become defensive.
You should be.
So saying what is clear is a personal attack, eh? I’m not defensive in the least bit, I am explaining the basic rationale because you are interested only in obfuscating it. And I’m done explaining to you and your clique what you do not want to understand. The rules stand.
I have no "clique" sir/ma'am other than fellow Christian brothers and sisters. The fact that you admit you have a "list" of what you perceive to be trouble makers makes you incapable of being a fair Moderator - and you should step down.
