Yep. Shut down the freebies and deny first-class citizen status and the immigration problem will take care of itself.

Given the raw feelings of those who support Sarah, it won't help your candidate Bobby Jindal, if you use the same tactics to tear her down that the media used. By all means promote Jindal, but do so by building him up, not by tearing Sarah down. I already have developed a negative viewpoint of Bobby Jindal because of supporters like you.

Sarah is in a room full of stars, she is the supernova, A supernova is a huge, dying star...I'm not sure that's the best analogy!

women have been having catfights, envy and undermining each other since forever. That is our nature.

No need to insult me and it doesn’t win me over to your position.
I like Sarah Palin but I don’t think she is our strongest leader and that doesn’t diminish her.
She is like a lightning rod for criticism and it is not gutless, but realistic, to note that and wonder if she can be elected to president.
She is for sure the most appealing person on stage right now for conservatives but that does not make her the leader of the party or the next president.

Gov. Palin's unique asset is she, like Reagan, takes to the camera. Take it out of the political arena, and just look to the tv execs who make money on this stuff- and from what I've read, many would instantly put her under contract.
Now, does that make her Presidential? No, of course not. But, the point is that- if she really desires to be the GOP nominee, she must and can learn her craft. She can become knowledgeable and conversant with every national and international issue.
On the other hand, those other potential GOP candidates who are currently more knowledgeable about such issues, cannotlearn charisma nor acquire "star quality".
That's Palin's overwhelming advantage, and imo, that's an advanatge the others cannot overcome. Therefore, she's the prohibitive favorite to win the GOP nomination 2012- if she's willing to put in the work. But, if she's not willing to put in the effort, then she doesn't deserve the nomination- and shouldn't get it.

You think the voters of Iowa and New Hampshire are going to pick Palin???? We should just wait and see who is chosen in 2012. Everytime we try and annoint who will be the candidates of a particular election it never works out that way.

Im not liking her immigration comments. Illegal Immigration is one of the main factors causing our financial crisis right now. We cannot take care of everyone. I agree with you heartily re the illegal invasion being a major cause of our country's economic woes, AND, as I suspected and other FReepers said privately, Sarah was and is not the conservative she posed to be. Hence, my intuitive reservations about her.....

Good post, Yorkie.
We who have steadily opposed the illegal invasion for years are the real losers in every election, no matter which party wins.

The GOP shouldn’t pander but it should reach out to legal hispanics so they don’t become a defacto wing of the DNC as blacks have

That is not true, it may be true for black people...and the party stupidly continues to try and court them with dumb crap about how the GOP freed the slaves, etc. But MANY latinos support conservative principles and vote for Republicans (check Florida and Texas, where the GOP has at times gotten good numbers with legal hispanics). Many Latinos don't support illegal immigration. And the whole reaching out to Latinos is anti-border enforcement or pro-amnesty argument is not a good way forward for conservatism or the GOP. Many Latinos aren't even affected by the border issue (all Latinos aren't Mexicans) The conservative movement can not survive in America with a message that only reaches white ears and the GOP will continue to be the stupid party reaching out to blacks and ignoring a group that would actually give us a chance.

Because of course we can’t like Jindal & Steele for any othe reason than their race.
And we only like Palin because of her sex.
We like Sanford because he’s white too!

And exactly what do you propose be done?
To: rintense; penelopesire
Populism has its good and bad points. When it works, like it did with illegal immigration , its great. But when its done based on emotion and feeling, its just way wrong. When you say "worked"...you mean that thwarting the passage of any immigration bill ensured that we'll get an absolutely horrendus bill passed out of the Reid/Pelosi/Obama machine next year?
In hindsight, I don't think that's gonna turn out too well.
