In an interview tonight with CNNs Wolf Blitzer, Palin said she hasnt ruled out filling Sen. Ted Stevens Senate seat if he is reelected and the Senate ejects him for his felony conviction.
She said she doesnt want to close any doors on her future.
She also said she is not egotistical enough to appoint herself to the seat.
That comment is slightly problematic, in that the seat can only be permanently filled by the winner of a special election. At best, Palin could appoint someone in the 60- to 90-day interim before the election.
When Gov. Frank Murkowski became governor of Alaska in 2002, he appointed his daughter, Lisa Murkowski, to his vacant seat. That didnt go over well with Alaskans, and the law was changed twice, by ballot and the state legislature. The result was that the governor was stripped of the power to fill vacant Senate seats.
The ballot initiative prohibits the governor from even appointing an interim senator, while the legislatures version allows an interim appointment. The states supreme court would have to work out the difference detail if the law were challenged.
If Palin wanted Stevens seat for a full term, shed need to win the special election like any other hopeful.

Bowel Movement?
I agree. In a Republican or evenly divided Senate, it might be a good move, but as is she should stay Governor through 2012 and then run for President of the United States. After four years of fascism from D.C, she will be even more welcome to an apologetic nation.
or Big Media. . . they are synonymous.

I like to simply say. . . Stay outa’ my wallet & stay outa’ my bedroom.
She should run for re-election in Alaska.
Sadly,TFM, I think the nation will still be under a strong delusion at that time. It probably won’t be until his second term that the mask of Obama is ripped off and people see him for what he is.
Wrong. Recognizing the constitutional problem, the state legislature voted up a near identical law as the referendum, thus sealing the deal.
We all need a specific reference to that law.
