HAVERHILL, N.H. - A county treasurer who lost re-election last week to a Dartmouth College student says most "real" people backed her, and that she lost because of "brainwashed" college students.

Grafton County Treasurer Carol Elliott, a Republican, said students just voted for the Democratic ticket, which included Vanessa Sievers, 20, a Dartmouth College junior. Sievers won by nearly 600 votes out of 42,000 cast after targeting voters at Dartmouth and Plymouth State University through a $42 ad on the Web site Facebook.

Looking at the new blue counties from 2004-2008 they largely contain colleges and universities.

Wow, AP admitting to the possibility of liberal brainwashing of college students -— ha! Well, when it is the only way you can pass your classes, you must bow to the extortion...

McCain was also defeated by a bunch of brainwashed college students, combined with racism. When 95+% of a particular race all vote for the same person, that just happens to be of the same color, I call that racism.

[Sievers] also took issue with Elliott’s claim that college students were brainwashed.

"I don’t know why people think college students are less informed than other members of the community."

Because they voted 2 to 1 for B. Hussein Obama.

AP is referring to the charge derogatorily, IMO. "Look kids, the loser thinks you're brainwashed. Nuk nuk nuk"

Sievers, a geography and history major from Big Sky, Mont., said she has been active in politics for many years and has worked on numerous New Hampshire campaigns, ranging from the mayoral race in Lebanon to Bill Richardson’s presidential campaign.

A citizen of Montana...running for election in New Hampshire? What the hell?

I’d love to see a study of that effect — almost for sure you are correct.

Just anecdotal, but.....

There is a recent (08) college grad in my office who spouts her talking points from the Jon Stewart Show and says that all of her friends agree with her that the Obamessiah is the hope for humanity etc. I try to avoid discussing politics with her b/c she is just scary brainwashed and her eyes glaze over the moment any contradictory information is introduced. I swear that such kids seem like Stepford Obamanators - what happened to independent, critical thought?

I knew plenty of lib/leftists in my college days (and I confess I was rather liberal myself, but always much more independent than most libs) but the hold that the “60s generation” (such as Ayers/Dohrn and their pals) has on campuses seems to have increased considerably in recent years.

I did not realize that Dartmouth had more than 21,000 students.

The voting age needs to be raised back to 21. Maybe 25.

College students and recent college grads in their twenties are really idiotic far left these days. I have a theory that these now adults were mentally traumatized by high school “counselors” and grief sessions in the days following 9/11. That therapy has now morphed into a generational kumbaya moment that will probably end up destroying the fabric of this nation.

Sievers, a geography and history major from Big Sky, Mont.,

We see a lot of this now. A "progressive" who is really an ignorant extreme lefty. State politics is a hobby for these do gooders.

Many of the new dems in NH are from out of state and believe they are doing us ignorant hicks in "Cow Hampshire" a favor. We are just peasants and Kulaks to these six and seven figure socialists.

And there's been a huge push to get people to register and to vote. Brainwashed - I guess the lefties on campus are doing their jobs.

This could be in any county, USA.

There aren’t many good conservative minded colleges to send your kids to today.

Not compared to all of the libtard reeducation universities infecting the nation nowadays.

The voting age needs to stay at 18, but must vote from the precinct of their “permanent residence” ie, where their parents live and may not register to vote in the county the school is in.

Plus the voter rolls should be purged, and everyone required to prove citizenship and permanent address before re-registering.

Or how about restricting voting to property owners? You get an annual voter registration card enclosed with your property tax bill.

In any event, this business of letting nontaxpayers vote is destroying this nation.
