California Musical Theatre director steps down

Scott Eckern, artistic director of the California Musical Theatre, is resigning his post and leaving the organization.

A boycott of the theater was called Tuesday by some in the national arts community when news broke that Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign, which supported the ban on gay marriage.

The measure passed last week.

Scott Eckern said in a prepared release that he chose to express his view through the democratic process, and he was deeply sorry for any harm or injury he cause by doing so.

“I am leaving California Musical Theatre after prayerful consideration to protect the organization and to help the healing in the local theatre-going and creative community,” he said. “I am disappointed that my personal convictions have cost me the opportunity to do what I love the most.”

It looks like some industries are so thoroughly dominated by deviants that no decent person can work there.

And yet people still run for Congress.

Doesn’t he know his audience?

You can be sure he does. It seems he knows his beliefs and his standards as well, and that they were more important.

Flip side of the Dan Cooper (founder and owner of Cooper Firearms, who lost his job because he supports Obama:) dust-up.

IMO, this is what happens when the political starts to become highly personal and becomes a standard by which people judge and everything and everyone around them.

The guy I refer business to what I'm overbooked or on vacation is 180° off from me on politics and religion, but he also happens to be highly competent and exceptionally honest and ethical when dealing with clients, and is also ready to lend a hand to anyone in the business whenever he has the opportunity irrespective of their politics or religion.

I don't socialize with with him, I don't want to listen to the radio stations he listens to or read the books he reads or leave the life he leads, but we are really tearing up the country over things that people are just never going to agree on, to the point where it's just about impossible for people to work together even on the things they do agree on.

IMO, both Dan Cooper and Scott Eckern should be at work today.

This is exactly how the “radicals” took over colleges in the 60s, which has turned them into the bastion of marxism that they are now.

McCAin et al triet to satisfy the rubes with a BS move to put the flag burning amendment BS.

With the exception of the black vote who are lock step with the democrat party, a voter backlash can be very real in 2010.

Connecticut just adopted formally homosexual based marriages. This makes NY Mass and CT the states that allow for homosexual based marriages.

California will probably be back in the homosexual pack because the courts redefined nomal to include homosexual behaivior and the Calif SC is saying it is ABNORMAL to have man and woman only marriage.

'When the furor first began, the USA Today story reports that “Cooper Firearms posted a statement saying that Dan Cooper had only given money to Obama in order to ‘to help defeat Hillary Clinton’ in the Democratic primaries and to protest the shifting of American jobs overseas. The statement said Cooper had then given money to the McCain and the Republican National Committee. Election records show no Cooper donations to McCain or the RNC, and the statement was later taken down.”

When this first became public, I had read about his claim that he was only trying to hurt Hilary and that he had given money to McCain and the RNC. Looks like he lied about that part and had really just gone to the other side.
