/PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- A nationwide survey of actual voters reveals that Americans strongly support immigration enforcement, and that less than one-third of Obama voters favor granting amnesty to illegal aliens. The poll conducted by Zogby International on behalf of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) on November 5 and 6 also found that a decisive majority of voters believe that an illegal alien amnesty would "further harm the interests of struggling American workers."
Among the key findings of the poll are:
-- Only 32% of Obama voters considered his support for amnesty as a factor in their decisions to vote for him. 67% said it was either not a factor at all, or they voted for Obama in spite of his stance on amnesty.
-- 60% of voters said reducing illegal immigration and cracking down on employers who hire them is important to them, while only 21% supported "legalizing or creating a pathway to citizenship" for illega; aliens.
-- 57% of voters stated that amnesty would harm American workers and further strain public resources, while only 26% believe amnesty would aid economic recovery and ease public burdens.

The GOP needs to make their positions very clear on border control and the hiring of illegals. Legal Hispanics do not like illegals coming in and undercutting their wages, any more than any other American. The problem seems to me that many can’t simply stop at the issues, but many times get very disrespectful of all Hispanics. Just read through some of the immigration threads here at FR, and you will see what I mean. It gets offensive and ugly. That is what turns off the legal Hispanic population. Hispanics are naturally conservative, and I have tried to get them involved in conservative politics. But, it doesn’t take long before they run into the negative stereotypical type comments. They don’t stick around for more, and they don’t vote GOP.
Even Diana Feinstein in California ended up voting against the last amnesty bill. Boxer, of course, was too dumb to figure out that a solid La Raza majority in California would have no use for an elderly Jewish woman when there was zero chance that a conservative could be elected to statewide office. She would be tossed out in favor of someone like the boy mayor from LA.
It is going to get really ugly when the La Raza and the Black Panther crowds start to really compete for their share of political pork extracted from the hide of whitey middle class.
I was talking to a repairman of mine who’s best friend is a customs agent.
He says many illegals are going home due to the economy.
Hey, with that and $1.96 gas, life is looking a little better.
Doesn’t matter. He’s going to push for and achieve blanket amnesty anyway. Generations of Democrat voters, you know.
“Hey, with that and $1.96 gas, life is looking a little better.”
We’re still paying 2.75 a gallon here, but even that looks like a bargain. They sure have us trained, don’t they?
I was paying somewhere in the 60 and 70 cent range for gas when I started driving back in 81 or so. Today I paid $1.83 and felt good doing it.
More people were against the bail out than were agains McCain amnesty. And the people lost that battle.
The politicians don’t care what we think.
She says the only reason BHO was in favor of it was to get the Hispanic vote. She assures me BHO would NEVER grant amnesty for the illegals.Barack the blank slate, Barack the Rorschach Candidate strikes again. Obama's supporters, knowing nothing of who he really is, projected all their dreams and desires on him.
I hear them say over and over all the things Obama will do that he never even promised to do. By running as the "All things to all people" candidate, he has set himself up for expectations he cannot possibly fulfill.
The "buyer's remorse" will be epic.
In Cali?
Yeah, I remember putting 50 cents in my tank in the mid 70s and going for a while.
“Huh? The poll said Americans do not support amnesty.”
I was joking as we all know the left and their government folk will tell us how much good the medicine of Shamnesty is for us.
And they in fact tried to push through the legislation as described.
It’s not about what the American people want. They don’t care about what the people want.
Their agenda is all that matters.
And I'm an optimistic sort!
It doesn't matter what they think. The millions of illegals granted amnesty will vote Democrat 85%, without the need for ads, or campaigning or anything. Free votes, year in, year out. That's what matters to the Democrats.
Starr County, Texas is >98% Hispanic. Its voting is what those getting amnesty will vote like.
Nobody likes it. If McCain could have made a credible case on the issue, which he couldn’t because of his record, he’d have done a lot better if not won. That was an issue we should have been able to ride. Cons, moderates, and a lot of libs oppose it.
Yes.
I just can’t see Obama being stupid enough to build national anger so quickly. If he’s smart, he’ll attempt to appease his opponents first, while stalling his supporters. After all, he already has their blind support.
You are so correct.
On a side note today I saw Zogby’s poll “Poll of likely voters statewide shows Jackson would defeat two Republicans in a Senate race: Jackson support spans the state”
And the circus continues to grow!
$20 says McCain and the other GOP appartchiki ignore this completely.
