Barone: 'Liberal media' wanted Palin to abort
POLITICO ^ | 11/11/8 | MIKE ALLEN & ANDY BARR

Posted on 11/11/2008 3:48:55 PM PST by bimboeruption

A roomful of academics erupted in angry boos Tuesday morning after political analyst Michael Barone said journalists trashed Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republicans' vice presidential nominee, because "she did not abort her Down syndrome baby."

Barone said in an e-mail that he "was attempting to be humorous and ... went over the line."

Barone was speaking at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, to the 121st annual meeting of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, which calls itself the nation’s oldest higher-education association.

“The liberal media attacked Sarah Palin because she did not abort her Down syndrome baby," Barone said, according to accounts by attendees. "They wanted her to kill that child. ... I'm talking about my media colleagues with whom I've worked for 35 years.”

Barone, a popular speaker on the paid lecture circuit, is a senior writer for U.S. News & World Report and principal coauthor of “The Almanac of American Politics."

About 500 people were in the room, and some walked out.

Barone did not dispute the accounts of his remarks. Asked about the comments, Barone said in an e-mail that he "was attempting to be humorous and, as many in public do, went over the line."

"Sorry for that," Barone said. "I was trying to focus on press hostility to Palin. I agree with [Washington Post media reporter and CNN 'Reliable Sources' host] Howard Kurtz that the press was much more interested in tracking down negative information on Palin than Obama."

Palin’s youngest child, her son Trig, was born in April. Televised shots of him during her convention speech helped endear her to conservatives. During the campaign, she said she would use the vice presidency to help families with special-needs children.

Hard core feminists especially hate Sarah Palin for her prolife views, and for walking the walk of prolife.

It galls them to see a beautiful, powerful, successful woman who believes that a woman doesn’t have to reach the pinnacle by climbing over the dead bodies of her aborted children.

I can’t even count all the examples that liberals call an “unpleasant truth” a “lie”.

Truth is their enemy. We must repeat truth over and over.

>>The vituperation ought to be ending soon. The campaign is over.<<

I don't think it will ever end against Sarah.

She's marked for life and beyond.

She really got to them. Every time she held little Trig, libs choked and/or peed themselves.

>>The people who walked out on Barone were self-identifying themselves as abortion-fanatics. Did someone manage to get a picture of them for later identification? They'll just get bolder now that they've got Obama in office, and they'll start hurting people ~ most likely starting out by beating elderly nuns to death on the public sidewalks outside abortuaries. This can be stopped now.<<

How can we stop it now?

Surprising statement coming from Barone, who's not really a social conservative, and generally only comments on relatively dry electoral matters.

But he is a sharp guy, so I guess he's just stating the obvious.

Feminists hate her because she repudiates their own lives, solely by existing.

Feminists cannot seem to choose a good husband, make a peaceful home, a relationship work and they abort their children. They say they don't want a home, husband and family, but the truth is, they couldn't handle the job. In involves sacrifices which many of them are not mature enough to make. Life is "me-me-me" to them.

I remember hearing years ago that feminism was essentially a cop-out. Being alone with nothing fruitful to show for your life must be something that is just too painful to admit. So it's easier to deride other women who have succeeded where they have failed.

You’ll have to answer that question yourself.

>>He spoke the truth. Feminists hate her because she repudiates their own lives, solely by existing.<<

Yeah, imagine that...instead of flushing her baby down the toilet, a mother actually loved her child enough to give it life.

What a concept!

We've lost it when it's more acceptable to kill your child than it is to let it be born.

We all know this is the reason the libs hate Sarah so much. Abortion is the first and foremost sacrament of liberalism.

They all know it too. That's why they booed and walked out. It was too close to home.

I watched Sarah Palin speak about abortion and feminism last night in her interview with Greta Van Susteren, and I thought, "Here is a woman who might actually be able to bring us together on this divisive issue." We will never be able to end or outlaw all abortions in this country, but we can chip away at the Culture of Death by helping people to not be afraid to embrace life. We need to affirm motherhood as a powerful and beautiful thing that should be embraced. Abortion is the opposite of motherhood in every way. It is destructive and weak. If Sarah Palin symbolizes anything it is motherhood in all its strength, compassion, and inherent leadership. It's not for nothing that she described her role as Alaska's governor in her inaugural address thus: "I will unambiguously, steadfastly, and doggedly guard the interests of this great state as a mother naturally guards her own, like a nanook defending her cub."

What joke? It’s the absolute truth. That’s the first thing every lib in my office commented on - “She has a Down’s Syndrome baby because she wouldn’t get an abortion.” Disgusting. Oh, and then they said Obigula’s lack of experience was now untouchable. Because they love to compare apples to oranges.

What would Barone know about elections and media coverage? He's only been writing the authoritative Almanac of American Politics every year since forever.

Those journalists in attendance can huff and puff all they want. If Barone says the MSM hated Palin because she delivered Trig, it is so.

I always liked him on The McLaughlin Group. He pounded Eleanor into the ground.

No worries, Sarah will be back in 2012 to secure our borders and restore our gun rights and cancel the upcoming 'Fairness Doctrine'.
God I hope not.
Sarah is a great woman and all, but if she is the best the GOP can get to run against 0bama then we are really screwed.

The GOP needs to return to being the party of ideas.
It hasn't been since Newt left.

Today's academic are among the least well-equipped to listen and debate issues non emotionally.

What we have in schools and universities today are ideological drones posing as intellectuals.

Barone is right on. There is no other way to explain the blind juvenile raging temper tantrum of the press, which started within 24 hours of her being named VP nominee, and continues on at this very moment.

I like her and she did very well. Of course old men such as myself like to see a chipper young lady out and about. She is, I calculated yesterday, my daughters’ age, roughly.

They booed because he hit the nail on the head.

Sarah Palin's last child was a mirror held up to the black hearts of those who are fundamentally no different from Hitler when it comes to eugenics.

They cannot stand to see the image.
