NRA: Obama's election spawns 'gun run'
One News Now ^ | November 11, 2008 | Chad Groening and Jody Brown

The National Rifle Association predicts the election of Barack Obama is going to pose a serious threat to the Second Amendment rights of American citizens.

Numerous reports around the U.S. indicate that citizens have been racing to purchase both guns and ammunition before Obama takes office next year. On Election Day, a Cheyenne, Wyoming, gun store set a one-day sales record -- then broke that record the next day. The Franklin Gun Shop outside Nashville sold more than 70 guns on Election Day. It was the biggest sales day since opening its doors eight years ago.

The day after Obama was elected, the owner of a shop outside Salt Lake City sold nine assault weapons -- and another gun store owner in Fort Worth reported sales of $101,000 in merchandise, shattering its single-day sales record.

NRA spokewoman Rachel Parsons has a theory on the gun run. It is quite apparent, she says, that people are concerned that Obama truly has had a radical record of opposition to the Second Amendment.

"They're concerned about their Second Amendment rights, and they're purchasing firearms...maybe while they still have the chance," she conjectures. "They know that it's very likely that when president-elect Obama gets into the White House, he and those who he has appointed to leadership, who are also anti-gun, may indeed attack the Second Amendment."

During the campaign, the NRA ran advertisements saying Obama "would be the most anti-gun president in American history." And the president-elect's voting record on gun rights, says Parson, backs that up.

"He's supported gun bans, ammunition bans. He's supported a tax increase on guns and ammunition. He has voted against self-defense in the home when he was in the Illinois State Senate," she emphasizes. "Over and over, Barack Obama has voted against the Second Amendment."

The NRA spokeswoman suggests it is likely those votes will follow him into the White House. So she says it will take a grassroots effort by those who support the Constitution to prevent president-elect Obama from destroying Americans' Second Amendment rights.

I don’t read that sort of gun control thinking into Steele’s words. Perhaps I’m reading into it what I want to, but it sounds like he says first and foremost that passing new laws is useless (and we all know it is) especially given the fact that 99.99% of all crimes committed with firearms in the U.S. are ALREADY breaking existing gun laws.

“Daisy” is a classic !

Yep. That was my first.

There's a Daisy "Red Ryder" on the shelf about 3 feet away from me. Used it to teach my kids how to shoot before graduating to .22 rifles. Now the wife wants to learn.

It would be a good idea for the well-heeled to maintain an ammunition “library.”

The "well-heeled" will be fine in the Obama Nation, as they can afford to pay bribes to NDF Stormtroopers to leave them alone.

No, you’re the only one here that I know of.

Why are you giving Petronski static, just because he wants GaryLee1990 to stop posting his own website on every FR post? Jim Robinson frowns on such spamming techniques.

I wanted to add to my question that, if you are NOT an SOT, LEO or private owner of an NFA-registered full-auto switch, and you made your own Glock 18 switch from blueprints, you could be looking at 25 years in a federal penitentiary.

The feds are spooky-dangerous enforcers of the NFA act of ‘32, just look at what happened at Waco.

Actually, an F/A 18 is a multi-million dollar jet fighter/attack aircraft in use by the US Navy and nicknamed the Hornet (i.e. F/A-18 Hornet). The most recent models are the F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet.

Oh my, how funny!

I’ve seen that used to refer to the full auto G18 on numerous NFA/Title II websites.

Thanks for letting me know I screwed up!

"Jim Robinson frowns on such spamming techniques"

Not accurate. What Jim frowns on is posting a thread linking one's own site.

Jeff Head puts links to his sites in most of his posts, and Jim has offered no complaint, has he? many others do too, and there is good information and links in most of them

Petronski is a serious trouble maker here, and he rarely misses a chance.

"I don’t read that sort of gun control thinking into Steele’s words."

I don't see how you can read anything else into them. All gun laws are unconstitutional. All gun laws make this a more dangerous place. All gun laws violate people's rights. All gun laws were intended to increase the illegitimate power of government.

They’ll come after folks based on gun purchase records. So what do you do when the police knock on your door and demand you hand over your guns?

You tell them you sold it.....at a gun show.

Then you hand them a bill of sale...

Pretty simple...actually.

Wow, was he banned just for including a link to his website?

I honestly do not see why people get so upset at such minor things as that...

I’ve got a serious question here guys. But a little background first.

I’ve never owned a gun in my entire life, never been hunting, and never lived somewhere where I felt so unsafe that I felt I needed to own a firearm. However, the events of the last few months (especially the last week) have pushed me to the point where I really do feel the need to become part of the armed population of America just in case the absolute worst comes to pass.

That being said, knowing my lack of experience with firearms I believe it would be irresponsible for me to just go out and buy a rifle or shotgun on a whim, much less bring it into my family’s home. Can some of you more experienced gun owners out there give me some pointers as to what would be the appropriate first steps I should take in order to become one of you guys? About the only thing I’ve done so far is check out some of the education/firearms training pages on the NRA site.

He posted on EVERY thread he could like a machine, he was using the site for advertising himself.

I couldn’t go on a thread that he didn’t post on.

Yup. Supposedly with such a short range that those firing a “Davy Crockett” were supposed to dig a hole to shelter in prior to launch in order to avoid being caught in the resulting blast.

So it wasn’t that people objected to his putting a link to his website up, it’s that he posted non-related comments on numerous threads just to put up the link?

Claymores - check
Tomahawk’s - check
Aegis system attached to balcony - check
Mark 20 Rockeye - check
Daisy BB rifle - check

Pretty impressive list there, except for that last item.

That Daisy is the U.S.Army-approved tool to teach instinct shooting. Knock off the sights, pick up a couple rolls of Neeco Wafers, the Army manual on "quick kill", put on your safety glasses, and get to honing a new skill.

I would start by going to a range where you can try out a few different guns of the type you’re looking for.

Some rifles have considerable recoil, while others have little. Find out what you can take. Same goes for hand guns. One size does not fit all.
