I suspect the only reason the latter hasn’t occurred yet, considering the hate and rage from the left, is these followers are reluctant to act overtly without permission being granted by those they perceive as their leaders. In other words, ‘they we’re just following orders.’

That’s interesting, but the Big Story in 2009 will be runaway inflation. Food and energy up at least 30%, plus 12% unemployment, diving stock market, more terrorist attacks in the U.S., threats from Russia, Iran, China, etc. Today’s economy will seem “good” compared to 2009. All this could lead to rioting and looting, then more government controls along with unconstitutional limits on our rights, particularly 1st and 2nd amendments.
