I think that those polled likely claimed to be Catholic because they were baptized Catholic. I want to know how many of those polled are practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church. That is the question. Any so called “Catholic” voter who favors abortion is by definition NOT a Catholic, but a heretic. These need to be publicly exposed and excommunicated. The Bishops must act on this scandal. Let these heretics go join some group of their choosing, but let them not be called Catholics.
The exit polls show that voters who claimed to be Catholics who attend Mass weekly voted McCain by a ten point margin.
Adjust for the liars and it may be even greater.
The data suggest but do not confirm that white Catholics who attended Mass weekly voted McCain by twenty points or more.
White Catholics as a whole, whether practicing or not, voted for McCain and not Obama.
As far as I’m concerned, the primary requirement for calling oneself a Catholic is regular church attendance. If you aren’t going to church, you are not practicing Cathlicism, therefore you are not a Catholic. Laura Ingram was reading poll figures the other night which said that among people who call themselves Catholics, the split is about 55% to 45% who are pro-life. However, when you ask only the people who go to Mass every week, the numbers go up to almost 90% to 10%. So, it’s tempting to say, politically, that the only Catholics are the ones who go to Mass, but the problem with that is that only about 1/3 of all Catholics do so. So when you throw out all the CINOs, you suddenly find that Catholics are a mush less vital voting block then they are now.
A Big Amen to that. Here are some other words that describe people like this: murderers, sinners, apostates, hypocrites. They need to repent.
