IMO they are deceiving themselves thinking that a Holocaust can't happen in this country. But it can and may very well happen only this time not only will the Jews be persecuted and imprisoned but Christian Conservatives as well.

That wouldn't be a difference. Christian conservatives were targeted by the Nazis as well as other groups--in addition to the Jews. All you had to do to avoid government retribution was toe the line politically. Those who refused (or were suspected) met fates similar to the Jews. A Christian conservative who actually stood for his values was a threat like any other.
