Election Outcome Increases Upstate Gun Sales

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Josh and Elizabeth Burrow stopped by Trader's Gun Shop Monday on Wade Hampton Boulevard to buy a new handgun -- and it wasn't for Josh.

"With everything going on in the economy and the world," said Elizabeth Burrow, "I'd just like the security of knowing I can protect myself."

She was among dozens of people looking to buy a gun at the shop on Wade Hampton Boulevard.

The owner of Trader's said some are buying for Christmas or hunting season, but about half of the people are buying because of the recent presidential election.

"We're selling weapons to people who would not normally own a firearm, but they're afraid of losing their right to own it so they're going to buy now," said Trader's owner Richard Shumate.

Even in October as an Obama win looked more and more likely, the FBI said background checks for gun purchases shot up 15-percent compared with October of last year.

The co-chair of Obama's transition team was asked this weekend about the recent spike in gun sales.

"I think that what people do is their own business, and if they decide to go out and buy guns they'll go out and buy guns, assuming that they are eligible to buy guns," said John Podesta.

Podesta went on to say that the economy is President-elect Obama's main focus.

Only time will tell if tougher gun laws are on the horizon, but for now you won't hear any complaints from gun shop owners.

"Business is very good right now, we're being well blessed at this point in time," said Shumate.

On your 1st paragraph: I agree that there’s a sense of foreboding evil come 2009, and it;s the false messiah.

2nd paragraph: how could the bamists know if they screwed up when they themselves didn’t activate 1 single braincell when they voted Obama?

As I predicted, and I’m not really that smart, most of You folks saw this comming.
No, I’m just smart enough to be a thorn in the side of Libtardation. Gun sales go up before Jan 20? DUH?

The rest of you MAY remain silent and probably should, if you can get away widit, do what’ca gotta do.

Me, I have no firearms. I used to have a Berreta .25 semi auto, but like the dummy I was, I sold it years ago.

Worry not for me for I can flee. LOL..

They should come downstate. Most Republicans I know are either buying or are looking at buying some type of new guns.

I know gun sales are through the roof here in Florida and Georgia with friends in the business.

My husband and I have several guns and are in the process of buying more AND stocking up on ammo. You never know when our 2nd Ammendment right will be taken away by NObama and his gang of libtards!

I'm saving up my Frequent Flier Miles for the marches on Congress, the White House and the Supreme Court when they try to pass the Freedom of Choice Act and new Federal Gun Control laws.

Podesta is scum, just like his new boss.

I’m scared as hell. We’ve been living on interest and dividends for the last five years. Have enough cash to see us through the next 18 months, then we’ll have to liquidate equities. That’s the scary part... touching the principle.

I hope you're keeping a very close eye on the source of dividends and interest.

On the other hand, he's very insecure, and afraid to piss off his base. That's why he keeps on about vote bribe/stimulus checks getting out ASAP. I think once he trips a time or two, he's going to go forward with great trepidation, if at all.

I’m really thinking hard about purchasing a long gun to go with my Browning pistol. I want to keep them at bay many more yards off.
