Show-Me State Still Hasn't Shown Who It Voted For
ABC News ^ | November 8, 2008 | Jake Tapper

Missouri is the one state that has yet to award its electors, but the likelihood is that those 11 electors will be awarded to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., thus eroding the state's "bellwether" status.

Since 1904, Missouri has voted with the winner in every presidential election except for one.

On election night, the Missouri Secretary of State's office recorded a 5,868 vote edge for the Republicans -- 1,442,673 votes for the McCain-Palin ticket, 1,436,814 for Obama-Biden.

In other words, McCain 49.4%, Obama 49.2%.

The state was not called, however, because uncounted were 7,085 provisional ballots -- cast by folks whose voting status was unclear when they showed up at the polls.

this crappy election which very well could be the end of America was so close in so many respects....

its true that both Indiana and N.Carolina would be McCains if Barr's people had voted for America...

and the rest?....well, its hard to fight back when you are outspent 5/1 minimum....

I can blame a lot of people but who really bares the blame.....the "conservatives" and the Pubs who did not vote, or who voted for the "the black man" because it was for "change"....

lazy intellectual babies....

we can fight the rats and the leftists, but we can't fight the lazy conservatives and pubs.....

. . .Part of the GAME is to raise money...McCain couldn't because he had no real followers until the end..and because he didn't represent anything other than pragmatic bipartisanship....to lament that it was unfair is to miss the whole point of How to Win and HOW to LOSE....if we keep missing that point it will be Democrats for a long long time.....

I live in SW Missouri, and I for one am glad my state will stay red.

I found an article a few weeks back that said MO has been turning redder since 2000, and really hasn’t been a bellwether since then. The article went on to state that Ohio has the better demographics for being a bellwether nowadays.

McCain’s margin in Missouri has slipped even lower. It looks like he’ll win, but Obama continues to gain in the vote tally.

Counting the vote of the dead and the Illinois vote in St Louis, Missouri is always very slow.

It will be closer than it should be. But that’s thanks to ACORN, and the dead voters in KC and St. Louis.

How about the whites that voted for Obama purely out of guilt?

Truer words were never spoken. I hope the conservatives who refused to support McCain out of principle are happy now.

Obama was very close to 50% in both NC and IN. 100% of Barr voters would not have voted McCain. Many are not pro-American as it were. Really to waste your vote in a close state and a close election you’ve got to be a weirdo. Many would not have voted and some would have preferred Obama.

Very unfortunate the state ticket ran behind McCain.

The problem is, they are never happy. They are nothing but a drag on the party, and the GOP leadership ought to start actually leading by quickly and thoroughly disowning the far right fringe who don’t support the party anyway and instead drive moderates and Hispanics into the arms of the Democrats. If the Republicans fail to clean house, then the party will forever be in the minority.

Newspapers here called Missouri for McCain last week. I don’t see that changing.

Sure. And Florida would have gone for Gore in 2000 if Nader's people had voted for him. You look back at the "what if's" and you're going to drive yourself crazy. We lost. We need to get over it and move on towards 2010 and 2012.
