Hollywood joins the furor over gay marriage ban

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Thousands of protesters are angry about California's ban on gay marriage - and so are the stars.

Many celebrities grieved the passing of Proposition 8 in California this week. Some - such as Wanda Sykes, Rose McGowen and Lance Bass - attended a Wednesday protest criticizing the state's gay marriage ban. Others - like Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O'Donnell, Samantha Ronson and Melissa Etheridge - vented their frustrations online, on TV, and onstage.

Blocks away from the Thursday rally of more than 2,000 gay-rights advocates outside the gates of a Mormon temple, several stars - including James Cromwell, Patricia Clarkson, Anjelica Huston and Sean Penn - said they supported the protesters while walking the red carpet at the BAFTA L.A. Brittania Awards at Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

Etheridge, who exchanged vows with her longtime partner in a 2003 ceremony, declared she wouldn't pay her taxes in a blog entry posted Thursday on TheDailyBeast.com. The gay Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter said without the right to marry in California, she didn't think she should have to pay taxes because "I am not a full citizen."

"...Oh, and I am sure Ellen will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes, too."

Other celebs used time in the spotlight to decry the decision. Madonna took a moment during her concert at Dodger Stadium to declare to the audience that she was sad "because African-Americans are equal finally, but gay marriage is not." Former teen queen Christina Aguilera also spoke out against the ban.

The debate is usually framed the wrong way. Gays already have the right to marry. Any gay man can marry any gay woman. What they want is to change the definition of marriage.

Perhaps they will next move their protest to outside the Scientology Center in LA ..... or maybe not.

OK, I give up. How can I continue to believe in traditional marriage when confronted by such paragons of virtue as Madonna and Christina Aguillera?

Ellen has got to be one of the dumbest human beings on the planet. By announcing her intention not to pay taxes she has given the feds grounds for constant audits. Smart.

Hmm, you know, I find it somewhat amusing that there is all of this outrage by celebrities AFTER the proposition passed. How many of them opened up their wallets to support this cause that they supposedly care a lot about? From an article I read a few weeks ago, not many.

If only they give the military this much support.

How Hollywood has fallen.

From Gene Autry, James Arness, Ernest Borgnine, Mel Brooks, Tony Curtis, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Audrey Hepburn, Lee Marvin, etc. to the clowns we have now.

Sad.

Maybe I can get out of paying my taxes too, since I can't marry, my brother/son/father/dog/cat....What's the difference? She has the right to marry, she just can't marry a woman. But I can't marry the above mentioned people, so do I not have to pay taxes? I hope they throw her in jail.

I am sure they will make a movie about it and it will probably gross 46 cents and then win every oscar on the board!

The whole withholding of taxes didn’t work out so good for Wesley Snipes... I hope Ellen practices how to make prison grilled cheese sammiches with her iron.

As par of the HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA to indoctrinate the country, was to take over of Homo-Wood :) as much as they could... And they have... That is the reason “Hollywood,” takes this defeat at heart.

Actually, it was Melissa Etheridge who said she wouldn’t pay her taxes.

How long will it be before we get single-choice ballots, where you can only vote one approved way?

"...Oh, and I am sure Ellen will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes, too."

What's ironic is that one of their biggest issues with "gay marriage" is the right to file a joint tax return. You know, to pay lower taxes.

Now, remember the outpouring of hatred for anyone earning over $250,000 who might resist paying more on taxes? Remember Biden telling us all how patriotic it is for the rich to pay more taxes?

But what is the gay-rights crowd bitching about? Oh, I remember.... they want to pay lower taxes!

And the moral lesson of the day, my dearies: If you want to pay lower taxes, and you are rich, you're a selfish piece of crap. UNLESS YOU ARE GAY.

I do not like the outcome of the Presidential election. Can we protest and refuse to pay our taxes over that?
