RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe signed papers Monday signaling a possible run for governor next year in Virginia. McAuliffe told The Associated Press he set up a campaign committee and will tour Virginia for the next 60 days before making his candidacy certain.
He signed papers setting up his committee after a series of barnstorming campaign appearances across the state on behalf of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
McAuliffe would face two other Democrats already in the governor's race. State Senator Creigh Deeds narrowly lost the attorney general's race in 2005, and House Democratic Caucus chairman Brian Moran is also in the race.

I'd say nope. Georger Allen would probably not run again and if he did would lose...though I'd heard his name mentioned as a possible candidate.
Primarily Northern Va, then Greater Richmond and Tidewater now elect all governors and senators and presidents. We no longer have much of an effective Republican party. Virginia is "Blue" Whatever Democrat runs will win.
At that time a massive parking lot was built over the site. The pipes were buried, still incomplete, and it was made to look like nothing ever bad had happened to that property.
The guy doing the burying was Jeri Connolly, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors' Chairman who was then selected by the Democrats to run for Congress from this district.
I watched them built that lot ~ it's fully landscaped by the way, but it has raw I-95 highway lanes to the East and Backload to the West ~ nobody to use it in fact ~ does not serve any commercial center in any meaningful way.
It probably cost $3,000,000 to $7,000,000. HUNDREDS of illegal aliens were brought to the site to rank it, paint it, and plant the trees, flowers and bushe.
This was one of the biggest wastes of public money I've ever seen, and right under my nose. I think Connolly was taunting me. Now his punk buddy wants to run for Governor in Virginia.
This guy must be stopped! These people are madmen.
Sigh. Note to self: send Bob McDonnell some money. All we need is for lead crapweasel McAuliffe to follow the lovely Kaine.
