By now you’ve all heard the Fox News report last week that “unnamed” former McCain advisers leaked that Sarah Palin was confused about whether Africa was a continent, and which countries were in NAFTA. I was perfectly happy staying under the radar as an anonymous source for Fox News‘ Carl Cameron, but now that Palin has accused her accusers of being “unprofessional…jerks…cowards… taking things out of context, and then tried to spread something on national news” and begun to cast doubt on the Fox News report, maybe she’s right to a certain extent. For those of us on the McCain campaign who thought that she acted like a rogue diva and lost John the election, maybe we DO have a responsibility to come out in public. But Sarah… careful what you ask for: some of us may have more to reveal.
So yes, to be clear, last week I was the one who leaked those things to a producer at Fox News who works with Cameron. Carl and his producers are good guys, and I don’t want them to have to worry about protecting their sources (and going through the wringer ala Judith Miller or Matt Cooper) on something like this.
As you know, I was one of the foreign policy advisers on the McCain campaign who worked with Randy Scheunemann to help prep Sarah on her debate with Joe Biden. Did we outright give her a geography quiz when we started the prep? No, of course not. But yes, in the context of the prep, it slowly became apparent that her grasp of basic geo-political knowledge had major gaps. Could she have passed a multiple choice test about South Africa or NAFTA. Probably. But it was clear that she simply didn’t have the ease of knowledge that we come to expect from a major party political candidate. Other slights came up, too: Not knowing the difference between Hezbollah and Hamas. Or the difference between the Shiites and Suni. Or when it came to international terrorist organizations, knowing that the IRA was in Northern Ireland, and ETA in Spain.
The real thing we had to constantly remind her was to never, ever compare herself in any way to Hillary Clinton, as she had at her announcement speech. We had it on good authority that Biden was prepping to unleash the inevitable line, “I know Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine. And Sarah, you’re no Hillary Clinton.” Alas, Biden would have been right.
Listen to this one. Originally poted by kcvl. The guy Eisenstadt is a complete loon - sort of a Borat in real life.
We can have a good summary when Foxnews explains how Carl Cameron acquired the story!
Be careful, you could go blind.
Whats the sentence for double agents?
They should reverse his last payroll deposit from the RNC.
I don’t think this clown leaked anything to Carl Cameron. If that was the case and he got fooled he should be in fatal professional trouble. Cameron well knows who the players are in the McCain campaign.
Someone should give this guy cement shoes, or drop on an iceberg with a hungry polar bear.
Fox was hoaxed.
You've Ben Mugged
I’m sure that Carl knows the principal players, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been taken in by a hush-hush type of email presenting “Marty Eisenstadt” as someone who had been a kind of outside consultant to the campaign, just as he described himself on “his” blog. Sure, Carl would have thought he was checking out the story, but maybe in the rush and frenzy of the “morning after” he got careless.
I’m sure Carl would have thought he was checking everything out, but in the rush to have the story the day after the election he might have simply gotten vague rumblings of RINO dissatisfaction rather than specific confirmations of the “Africa” and “NAFTA” claims. Remember that almost anyone in the campaign, hearing those tales related, might assume that there had been some prior encounter for which they had not been present..... so they are led by the reporter to think they missed the specifics but then they say “well I didn’t think that highly of her anyway” or whatever.
Yes this will be a gigantic professional mess for Carl Cameron if he was totally taken in like this, but at this point I’m certainly NOT willing to cut anyone any slack on the trashing of Sarah Palin. It is up to the “trashers” to come clean and provide some evidence that goes beyond hoax-filled gossip.
If it turns out he was hoaxed he is in a lot of trouble. I doubt it though.
geez....yet another Jewish GOP guy who hates Palin?
shucks, how could that be?
Am I the McCain aide who called Sarah Palin a Diva?
October 27th, 2008 . by Marty
Ive been getting a lot of inquiries about whether I was the McCain advisor who told CNN anonymously that Sarah Palin was behaving like a diva. Just because the RNC spent over $900 for her spray-on tan, and I havent been shy about letting that nugget get out of the bag, people think that Im the one loading the ammunition on the circular firing squad. Hmmm.

Can you post this for me? This is “Marty the Nut”, with Joe the Plumber.
He is all about publicity and stirring trouble for the right.
He has been behind quite a few of the “leaks” about Palin. According to him.
Probably BS as far as Cameron is concerned, but MSNBC did fall for his story.
I think you are going to see that more than MSNBC fell for his stories.
He has been interviewed and cited several times for different publications and media, and he’s been an ongoing source of constant inflammatory rhetoric stirring up the idiot MSM.
It’s the prank of all pranks, and once again shows how the MSM will swallow just about anything hook, line, sinker, without bothering to verify it. In a matter of minutes, FReepers had the information out there. If we can figure it out, why can’t MSM catch it?
