ARLINGTON - An American flag and the way it has been displayed is at the center of a dispute between neighbors that began after the 2008 presidential election.
Ever since 9/11, Arlington neighbors Patrick O'Toole and Sharon Garner both flew the American flag patriotically in front of their homes, until now.
In protest to the election results, O'Toole now flies a black flag above an upside down American flag.
"I just don't think it's American," said Garner. "I just don't think it's neighborly. We have children that live in our neighborhood and I'm sure their parents have to explain to them why that flag is hanging like that."
The flag is something Garner holds close to her heart. In fact, the American flag is painted on Garner's birdhouse and bench.

I flew my flag upside down the day that Bill Clinton sent the storm troopers for Elian Gonzalez.
The election of Chairman Hussein is equally as bad an event.

"The election is over," she said. "It's happened and we need to come together like we did in 9/11 and support each other and deal with it." There's more truth to that statement then I bet she realizes.

My brother is a moonbat. I was talking to him last night and he mentioned that, in his opinion, the country should pull into line behind Obama, I mean, he is everybody's president, you know? We need a unified country, what with the economic troubles, and wars in a number of countries. Obama is asking for personal responsibility and some self-sacrifice and that's the right thing, we should really heed the call and follow his leadership.
I pointed out that the Democrats did nothing like this for the past 8 years, and if Bush had called for self-sacrifice, the media would have portrayed the whole thing as a Grapes of Wrath/Great Depression why-are-we-suffering-under-this-moron kind of thing.
My brother thought about this and said, "Well, yeah, maybe we were a little unfair -- but that doesn't mean we shouldn't all pull together now!"
Democrats don't show respect, they just demand respect.

... but... but... but I thought "the highest form patriotism [was] dissent" -- ?!?

To protest something is not acting like a Liberal, it's a Constitutional right. Libs burn the flag which in a symbol of hatred for this country where at least this man has a valid point.

Flying the flag upside down is wrong regardless of the circumstances. That person should be ashamed.
To: ClearCase_guy
Play him the chip of Hillary screeching that we have a right to debate and claiming it was patriotic to do so.

Do something that shows you don’t like Obama but do not hang the flag upside down. Most people have no idea what it means and it will appear that you are anti-American.

“I just don’t think it’s American,” said Garner. “I just don’t think it’s neighborly. We have children that live in our neighborhood and I’m sure their parents have to explain to them why that flag is hanging like that.”
wow. this is offensive to a liberal? but stomping on it, dancing on it, and burning it are OK? how do they explain that to their children?
To: DooDahhhh
When the Dems are in ascendency, they always call for unity and characterize those who don’t unify as unpatriotic (or worse: now it will be considered racist). But talk of unity is absent from Dems when Republicans are in power, then dissent is the highest form of citizenship. It is heads I win, tails you lose.

I read the comments at the end of the article...seems the liberals are now upset.
Aren't these the same people who say it's just ducky to BURN the flag?

If most people don't have an idea what it means then maybe they should get a lesson on flags.
