Mitt Romney: I’m no back stabber

Aides blast accusations, not from Mitt camp

By Dave Wedge

Saturday, November 8, 2008 -

Mitt Romney’s camp is firing back at reports his foot soldiers are behind a brutal smear campaign against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a backdoor strategy to position the former Bay State governor for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

“It’s a completely absurd allegation that is totally divorced from the truth,” Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said.

Fox News, the New York Times [NYT] and Newsweek have reported on a host of criticisms of Palin, including that she threw tantrums that made staffers cry and didn’t know Africa was a continent. Several media outlets reported some of the leaks came from within the McCain campaign. But the political blog, The Palmetto Scoop, citing “very good sources,” said it was Romney loyalists working for McCain who were behind the “premeditated last minute sabotage” of Palin.

Fehrnstrom took issue with the Scoop’s claim that as much as 80 percent of Romney’s campaign staff went to work for Sen. John McCain’s team after the GOP primary. Only “a handful” of Romney operatives joined the Arizona senator’s campaign, he said.

“The truth is, there are no former Romney staffers in senior roles at the McCain campaign,” Fehrnstrom said. “I can think of a handful of people, maybe three or four, who went over, all in junior positions.”

However, Romney’s former campaign spokesman Kevin Madden was among the ex-Romney staffers to bash Palin. In an interview on CNN just a week before the election, Madden called Palin “unseasoned” and questioned whether she should have been McCain’s pick.

“When you put out an unknown and you give them 70 days with which to go through a vetting process, both by voters and the national press corps, ugly things can tend to happen,” Madden said.

Since McCain’s loss, Palin has been accused of dragging down the ticket in what her spokeswoman Meg Stapleton reportedly called “a circling firing squad.”

GOP strategist Holly Robichaud, who writes the “Lone Republican” blog for the Herald, said: “It’s definitely Romney’s people. They’ve been doing it for a while. Romney is thinking about running again in 2012 and he needs to kill off Sarah Palin in order to get there.”

Romney himself has defended Palin, calling her a “positive addition to the ticket” in an appearance on CBS’ “Early Show” a week before the election.

“For a first-time candidate on the national stage . . . you’re subject to the national spotlight. It’s more like a national torch,” Romney said. “She has been able to keep cool under the pressure.”

Meanwhile, a new Rasmussen poll shows that 64 percent of Republicans want Palin to be the GOP presidential candidate in 2012 while 11 percent prefer Romney.

Hawaiians have never been denied the priesthood in Mormonism.

OK, I said ...non-white Mormons on the islands -- I didn't say "native Hawaiians." (Are you trying to tell us that say, black military folk stationed in Hawaii were not denied the priesthood well into the 1970s?)

So I expect an apology for your name-calling and accusations.

The first step is for the lying and bashing to stop.
Don’t criticize me for challenging the lying and bashing.
Colofornia has a long history of this activity.

For all your lying and unprovoked bashing, you deserve no apology.
Incidentally, when Obama was in high school, the priesthood was given to blacks.

I was talking about the DU trash. When you get called a homosexual child rapist by these paid thugs, niceties go straight out the window. They’ve been polluting this website with their lies, slander, filth, backstabbing and sycophantic idol worship for well over a year now and it’s long past time they were shown the door en masse.

A state like CA leaves a lot of room for mischief on the
part of dimocrats. They knew CA EV’s will go to Obama so they
can crossover in large numbers and vote for the worst
possible repub candidate, most likely a RINO.

Ditto in NY. So this RINO collects a lot of delegates but is
doomed in the GE. I don’t recall if McCain won CA & NY in the
primaries, but if he did, it proves my point.

McCain won the California primary, Romney came away with, I think, 5 or 6 congressional districts.

California's Republican primary is a closed race. The Democrat primary is open.

McCain 42.25% Romney 34.56% Huckabee 11.62%.

Nina Easton is another one from the FOX “panel”
that I have no interest in hearing.
And yes, I don’t understand the fawning over Carl Cameron either. Or Major Garret, on and on.

I do however like Romney. He was our best shot to defeat Obama, and the day he dropped out it was OVER. I’m not saying he was the perfect candidate, but he was the one who could ARTICULATE the conservative message best, and would have done whatever we wanted him to do to carry that message. Unlike any of the others, (obviously never McCain), he would have put his heart and soul into doing whatever it took to win. So maybe you don’t like his religion, or you think he has changed his position on the Life issue. So what? If you come to a change of heart, all the better. Reagan did. Running against Obama left us in an almost impossible position. There were no candidates who could have beaten him, but for Romney, in that election cycle, and with the mood of the country “perceived” as it was.

And who are the possibles right now that are being trashed by the media? Palin and Romney. The two that the media wants to destroy already, knowing that they are two of our best candidates in 12. Just exactly as they did in the primary. And, we got McCain. They’ll start on Jindal, they’ll start on Pence, but for now they’ll continue destroying Palin and Romney to get them out of their way. I just don’t think we should be giving them any fodder whatsoever.

The GOP would have won Election 2008 EXCEPT for Traitor-Leper Romney
and his gang of backstabbers, supported by his team's spouses in the MSM.

Romney never had a chance except to destroy conservatives.

It is, and has always been, liar, traitor, Romney's way.

Back at it with your Romney hatred, are you. Isn’t this just all so great for McCain. He allows for the trashing of Palin by his people, and then makes sure that Romney and a few of the aides that worked for him and came over to work for McCain in junior positions get the blame for trashing her. Isn’t that wonderful. All of the onus is off of McCain, and all of it is put on first Palin, and now Romney. Talking about killing two birds with one stone, and McCain comes out smelling like a rose.

Boy are all of you people gullible. The only ones to allegedly “witness” Palin’s verbal faux pas’ and alleged shopping sprees were McCain’s senior staff, not Romney’s. But the Romney haters choose to put on their Romney hating blinders and not see the obvious. Well, stupid is as stupid is. I have always disliked McCain whose whole modus operandi is to trash his own kind (because he really isn’t a Pub, he’s a RINO at best), and now he’s shot down two more Pubs, Palin and Romney. Nice work John. So glad you lost. Sorry for Palin, but never for you. Nasty loser. He did the same thing to Bush last election. Scapegoated him with false accusations. I have always thought that McCain made up those alleged racist calls in S. Carolina, he made the whole thing up. There never was any proof the calls ever took place. McCain is mentally unstable. John is trying to ruin it for both Palin or Romney to have any chance in 2012. And he is once again dividing our Party. Disgusting.

P.S., for McCain it’s kind of like “if I can’t win then you won’t ever either.” Ugh.

Having followed this from the beginning, there is no doubt
that Romney and his minions are behind these attacks
on Gov. Palin.

That does not excuse Sen McCain for defending Obama
more than Gov. Palin. Shame on him.

Shame on you ... on your kneepads before Romney.

We have described Romney's venal BEHAVIOR with precise detail and URLs proving it.

I love Mitt Romney and his beautiful family.

I hate that he and his servants and RomneyBOTs
have conspired against America and America's values, and the GOP.

Apparently, you and the RomneyBOTs support such bad behavior.

Exactly. Which also means that for part of high school -- even past his driver's license time -- he and others of his color was denied it.

Also, you neglect the context of this whole brief discussion I introduced: That the MSM nor the O campaign would have let any of this go in a Romney-O match-up. It would have been this subject of racism 24/7.

Another ad hominem — signalling projection again.

Since Romney and the RomneyBOTs and Romney minions
and ROmney servants all support attacking children
and back-stabbing conservative female candidates,
it appears that you are sociopathic — like your Master.
