Editorial: Thin the RINO herd

Now what?

The Republican Party -- nationally and in Pennsylvania -- lies in tatters. Having lost the White House to Barack Obama, suffered historic losses in congressional elections, been almost shut out in statewide races and experienced further erosion in the state House, there is no doubt the GOP has hit rock bottom.

It is, most significantly, a loss for so-called moderate Republicanism. Party moderates have opined time and again that a more middle-of-the-road presidential candidate could win Pennsylvania. McCain was touted as that candidate. It was a double-digit trouncing.

I'd ask what you area of expertise is, but I've got a feeling college freshmen aren't doing much other than feigning political sophistication at conservative forums and creating fake online personae.

Christ made it very clear - torture is bad. I agree completely. You think torture is a great way to spend a slow sunday afternoon. And somehow i'm the 'bad guy'? The cognitive dissonance must be giving you one hell of a headache right now.

>>>>Exactly what I’ve said before on this forum. Why do we let the RINO-infested northeastern states chose our presidential candidate? We need several large conservative states to move their primaries up. <<<<<

We also need to END ALL OPEN PRIMARIES, crossover voters should NEVER be allowed to choose our candidate

Let’s start right here on FR. We need an idealogical litmus matrix. No pass/fail, no one gets booted for their beliefs. But they can’t hide behind them any more and pretend to be conservative.

“We need conservative politicians who will identify socialists and communists for what they are. They can be civil, but they shouldn’t back down from telling the truth about the politics of their opponents.”

You mean good conservatives like George Allen, Rick Santorum and John Sununu? They did that.

It’s frustrating to me to see folks say “Look, we need candidates who do X” and yet those officials who did were thrown out, like babies thrown out with the bathwater.

I certainly agree with the sentiements.

We need Newt Gingrich for RNC Chair.

This is the same mistake that Rush made. No Republican could have won the presidency this year.

I can't say whether Thompson or Romney or Huckabee would have done better or worse than McCain, but it's really doubtful that any of them could have won after the economic mess hit last month. Ronald Reagan himself couldn't have won this year.

So you are saying that a good Christian conservative has to support torture in order to remain a member in good standing?

I just want to be clear with definitions here because I think it's part of what's wrong with the Republican party.

“Lingle said the national GOP needs to become less ideologically rigid and attract more ethnic minorities and women into its fold “

“Do America a favor, Gov Lingle and change your party affiliation. “

we have a minority party right now and your solution is to kick people out to make it smaller?

The idea of reaching out to minorities is a GOOD idea and doesnt require pandering to them.

You say “We already have a party that panders to racial identities” - we shouldnt do that, but I can tell you that getting only 30% of latino vote, 10% of black vote, 25% of Jewish vote, 25% of gay vote, and 35% of Asian American vote hurts us, and with those types of numbers the GOP managed to let Democrats rack up a huge advantage with 40% of the electorate, even winning whites 60/40 isnt enough to overcome it, and we certainly arent getting those numbers.

pandering is working just FINE for the Democrats, and if we dont pick the lock on that (not by changing our values or principles but by outreaching to these groups to affiliate with us), we are going to be in the wilderness for years or forever.

And the answer is yes

Then YOU are why the Republican party lost the election. all that hate and anger drove voters away. Conservatives - those worthy of the name anyway - do not stand for torture. they stand for freedom. And you can't torture people in the name of freedom and justice.

The Republicans have lost their way. they've become socialists, they support torture and violations of the law and common decency. they lie to us about what they stand for, saying one thing and doing the opposite. THAT is why Palin lost this election. She's the poster babe for hypocrisy. Voters saw that and said to themselves 'nope, not voting for the phony chick with the glasses'.

The Republican party in Oregon is officially dead now. We have no statewide elected Republican. The big spenders and freedom limitters have so ruined the GOP brand that Democratic mistakes wont bring people back. More freedoms from government, return to the constitution.

NO MORE OPEN PRIMARIES THAT ALLOW THE DEMS TO SELECT RINOS FOR US.
That’s the first thing. It’s also the easiest to change. We’ve got to make sure that only Republicans are selecting our candidates.

We can bring up all the true rock-ribbed conservatives we want, but they will get exactly nowhere if we allow the Dems to knock them out in the very first few states.

Get rid of the corrupt “Old Guard” as well. Stevens will be gone, one way or the other, even if he wins. No more Larry Craigs (even if he was great on guns and other conservative issues). No Don Youngs. WE simply MUST get rid of the rot.

They will have a tougher time attacking if we deny them easy pickings. It also gives us the advantage of pointing the finger.. we got rid of OUR bad apples.. what about yours? That one works better against the party in power, anyway.

We also have to dispel the notion that the GOP controlled Congress during the entire Bush presidency. Dems had the Senate for the first and last 2 years. They had the House the last 2 years also. For some reason, I keep hearing the lie that Bush had a tame Congress the whole time!.
