As they review the results of Tuesday's election victories and begin looking toward future campaigns, some Democrats have settled on a rallying cry: Texas is next.
It sounds improbable for the Republican bastion that produced President Bush and served as an early laboratory for Karl Rove's hard-nosed tactics. But Texas is one of several reliably red states that are now in Democrats' sights as party strategists begin to analyze a victorious 2008 campaign that they believe showed the contours of a new movement that could grow and prove long-lasting.
A multiethnic bloc of Latinos, blacks, young people and suburban whites helped to broaden the party's reach Tuesday well beyond its traditional base in the Northeast and the West Coast -- carrying Barack Obama into the White House and expanding the party's majorities in Congress...

I think we have more to fear from the Yankee invasion than the one from the south.
There is some truth in your statement. My have Yankee and Panamian in-laws and the ones from the really "Deep South" are the most conservative and voted for McCain. The ones from Massachusetts insists taxes should be raised and the WOT a failure and, well.. you know who THEY voted for....Our in-laws from Panama are very, very Roman Catholic and equally, very hard working. They however came into this country legally, learned English and took the naturalization test and never made any demands from their adopted homeland. I am very proud to be have such people in this family
If only all Latin America immigrants were this way ....

Part of my viewpoint comes from my son in law, a Hispanic, who is at least, if not more conservative than I.
The boy has a serious streak of redneck in him. ;)

I know, truthkeeper and I wasn’t addressing it to you per se (I should have addressed it to All, I guess). As you know, there are way too many people who swallow this stuff without batting an eye and I just wanted to point out the fallacy in doing that.
Nothing personal...

"Wishful thinking. Latinos came to the United States to escape Socialism and prosper. If we are sinking into the cesspool of Socialism, like the nations they are fleeing, it wont take much of a conservative politician to point that out and ask them to put a stop to the communists."
If your statement is true, then why did majority of latinos go for O?

“The dempgraphics are changing rapidly”.
You’re right. McCain carried Texas comfortably only because Rural and exurban Whites voted GOP in 80+ percent numbers. The cities have become urban barrios and ghettos with huge Minority populations.
Houston is also infested with a very large “Gay Community” and Northern and California Yuppies. Harris County (Houston), heretofore the largest Republican County in the Nation, was carried by the Dims for the first time in 40 years. (albeit by only 18,000 votes which was more than offset by suburban Montgomery County which went GOP by a more than 80,000 vote margin).
But the fact remains that we are in trouble demographically.
We did manage to get 35% of the Hispanic vote in Texas but if we could find a way to increase that to 40-45% it would take much of the pressure off for a long time. I think that is doable.

That's what I've been lead to believe about Texan Hispanics.
Maybe there's hope afterall(if they take the Texan Hispanics model)

It is only a matter of time. Demography is destiny. By 2023, half of all children 18 and under will be minorities and by 2042 half of the country will be minorites. By 2050 one in every three Americans will be Hispanic compared to 1 percent in 1970.

If they try to get a liberal Dem elected as Secretary of State that’s the first sign. Beware, Texas!

Even Fresno was razor thin for McCain this year. Immigrants turned out in big numbers as did the black folks.
