CHICAGO | President-elect Barack Obama's private conversation with Poland's president created an international disagreement Saturday, with President Lech Kaczynski saying Mr. Obama promised to continue a missile-defense system and the transition office saying the Democrat made no such commitment.
President Bush's White House declined to weigh in on the Friday phone call between the Polish leader and Mr. Obama, who will take office Jan. 20.
Mr. Obama has spoken with at least 15 world leaders including Mr. Kaczynski and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Mr. Kaczynski issued a statement in the Polish-language section of his Web site saying the U.S. president-elect "emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership of Poland and the United States and expressed hope in the continuation of political and military cooperation between our countries. He also said that the missile-defense project would continue."

exactly. This is text book Democrat foreign policy. Nothing but innuendo, nuance and vacilation. Obama will equivocate his way thru the next four years with the assistance of such foreign policy bedrocks as Lil’ Dickie Holbrook, Lurch, and “Plugs” P-Shiddy Biden.
Personally I think East and West Europe are toast.
0be votes “present” again.
An indication of what’s to come...
Beware: Do not cast your lot with the USA now if you are freedom loving. Tyrants are already taking a look at what they might want around the world.
President Bush liberated people, Obama’s going to throw them back.
Well, these first talks with foreign leaders are going well. (sarcasm heavy). This guy is being called a liar. The Soviets are putting up new offensive missiles. Hamas is ordering more body bombs. Mexico is providing free bus tickets north. France is no longer the stupid country of the world in electing socialists too office. Israel gets the message that they are on their own when it comes to defending their country from 500 million hating arabs. The Palestinian bombers find out they may have a future capital approved by The Chosen One.
Most politicans wait until they get in office to start lying in their official capacity.
I can, my son is at FOB Warhorse.
BTW, happy 223 birthday to the Marine Corps tomorrow.
I can read a little Polish and I went to President Kaczynski’s website to see what was there. It was pretty general, and the closest thing to the question in point was that BO stressed “the significance of the strategic partnership” = “znaczenie strategicznego partnerstwa.”
There was no specific reference to the missile shield per se, but, status quo, the strategic (stress on strategic) partnership includes the missile shield. We should know by now that BO talks in conundrums.
I think the real meaning of this is that BO and his “advisors” haven’t the slightest idea what they are going to do with regard to Eastern Europe and the Russians. Like everything else, they are playing it by ear. He’ll probably end up alienating the Poles who have been good allies.
No need. Barry seems to be doing a bang up job on his own.
The Great Unifier strikes again.
GWB: “No 3:00 a.m. phone calls, please, Barack.”
I have far more concern with the substance of the disagreement than whether Obama is a liar or not. It sounds like Obama is going to back down with the installation of the anti-missile system in Poland succumbing to Russian pressure. I wonder if Obama is also going to stop further deployment of the system in Alaska and elsewhere. This is not good.
