A welcome dilemma for newly reelected Kerry (being seriously considered for Sec. of State!)
The Boston Globe ^ | November 7, 2008 | Scot Lehigh

JOHN KERRY is in a public relations pickle.

It's bad form to seem hungry for a Cabinet post, particularly if you've just run for reelection professing that there's nothing more in the once-vast realm of your ambition than serving the good and decent people of Massachusetts.

But despite his office's attempt to knock the story down, Kerry is not only eyeing the secretary of state's job, he has emerged as a top contender for Foggy Bottom.

"I think it's serious - and Kerry wants it," says one person close to Barack Obama's campaign. "If you look at the list of possibilities, you've got to see him among the top contenders."

Now, Kerry is easy to make sport of because he tends to wear his ambition on his sleeve. And his collar. And his lapel. And a half-dozen other places about his person.

But let's be clear: He'd be a terrific choice for the job.

He's hardly the only one who's interested, of course. Another top contender would have to be former UN ambassador Richard Holbrooke, who was making the public rounds in Denver during the Democratic convention. Indeed, in one eye-catching moment at a foreign policy forum, Holbrooke dramatically rebuked an apologist who tried to minimize Russia's invasion of Georgia.

Speaking to Holbrooke afterward, I noted that Joe Biden's selection as Obama's ticketmate removed one of the former ambassador's major rivals for secretary of state. To hear Holbrooke's reaction, one might have thought he had no interest in a job he's coveted for years. Nevertheless, the tour d' horizon he authored in a recent edition of Foreign Affairs magazine was viewed by insiders as an audition for the position.

If it weren’t so sad, it would be knee slapping funny! Well... actually it is funny! Obama is installing the most ridiculous bozos and partisan Clintonista hacks. Some Change! Some responsibility! This is going to be huge trainwreck. If he pushes through his promises, he’ll eventually turn the average American, temporarily fooled by him, against him. If he breaks his promises and doesn’t turn the world into rainbow paradise, his supporters will be dissapointed. He won’t be able to hold up to people’s expectations, without p*ssing off others.

"Do the American people have any idea what they've just done?"

The average American voter is as dumb as a turkey dropping.

That said, I would not be embarrassed and humiliated if Richardson were named Sec. of State.

He's not a doofus like Kerry, but rather a fatso.

I can relate to that. Sí, se puede...

LOL - How one man can look so dorkish so often is beyond belief. Rush was saying yesterday that he relishes the possibility of Kerry being named Sec of State. The former said something to the effect that if there’s a bag of manure in the room Kerry will find a way to step in it.

The haughty John Kerry would be an absolutely perfect choice for Secretary of State. (sarc)

Can you imagine Teresa stumbling around in a drunken stupor as she escorts her hubby overseas. Please appoint him! Please! And if for whatever reason this doesn't work out I would suggest Dennis “the ultimate moonbat” Kucinich for the post. (How did he get such a hot wife?)

People look dorkish when they try to be something they're not.

No, they don't. They haven't a clue. And this disaster will be kept from them if at all possible.

I have just watched a number of pundits allow as how that disaster of a press conference where their soon-to-be overlord called himself a "mutt" and insulted a former First Lady and all I heard was how perfect it was and how no missteps were made.

Frankly, I can’t remember a single accomplishment of a Secretary of State since Henry Kissinger. Typically, they aren’t supposed to comment on domestic politics. That would be pretty difficult for Kerry.

I remember about a year ago (I was a lurker) someone had posted a funny Kerry pictures thread. I tried to search older articles but they won’t go farther back than 2008. Does any one know how to find it?

The more democrat Senators he pulls into the Administration, the better. Granted, Massachusetts ain't exactly a good bet for a Republican pickup, but someone like ... oh, say, Mitt Romney ... might make things interesting in a special election.

So how should a Republican run for the Senate in Massachusetts if a special election opened up now

He should start by congratulating BO and acknowledging the historic character of his election. And then light the afterburners and go hard after every looney tune leftist idea that's creeping out of the woodwork. I'd start with the trial balloon on nationalizing 401(k)'s and card check.
