You know what? The whole seance thing with Nancy Reagan really creeped me out back when I found out about it. I think Obama’s comment was funny, acutally. You’d have to have a pretty thin skin to be offended by THAT, we there is OH SO MUCH to find offense with . . .
I don’t recall Nancy ever having a seance.
When did this happen?
Astrology I remember.
He could have said the same thing-—and it might even have been funnier-—if he had left out Nancy Reagan’s name.
AFAIK, Nancy consulted an astrologer, but did not participate in any seances.
Obama channeled dead former presidents during one of his narcotics induced hallucinations.
If a Republican official said that during a press conference, would it be funny?
I never liked Nancy Reagan; but it's pretty classless to mock a frail, elderly woman. (Note he was not kind in his revelation about his own "typical white person" grandmother, either.)
It's even worse to mock the widow of a great former president. Whatever you think of her, she deserves respect.
Especially classless was mocking Nancy Reagan on stage, before hundreds of reporters and television cameras, knowing the "joke" would be heard by millions. This wasn't some private remark that got picked up by a live mike.
(Less important, but on a factual note: I never heard anything about Nancy Reagan holding "seances." Did Obama, like his gaffe-o-matic VP, get his history mixed up? Perhaps he was thinking of Mary Lincoln? It is true that a disgruntled Reagan ex-staffer, who wrote a tell-all memoir, stuck the knife into Nancy by alleging that she began consulting an "astrologer" after the attempted assassination of her husband. Superstitious, yes; but not quite the same thing as "holding seances.")
It wasn’t Nancy Reagan it was Hillary Clinton who channelled Eleanor Roosevelt.

maybe it would be funnier if she wasn’t an elderly widow who just suffered a broken hip in a fall.
Maybe it was a better thing to say in private to Michelle - in front of the nation during his first press conference?
Not so much.
